The trip will begin in Boston and head to philidelphia on day 1. Days 2/3 will be spent in philidelphia and leaving late on day 3.

    From there, there's empty space/time.

We would like to hit up my Vernon for a layover as well as 1 full day (2 nights) in the Williamsburgh, va area (Busch gardens ftw. Busch gardens will be day 7.

This would put Mt Vernon on day 6.

Wouldn't mind spending a night in Pittsburgh between 3 and 6, but have kids so a 6-hr drive isn't desired. Could use a spot or two in the middle to break up the trip.

Thoughts of what to do in a rectangle between philidelphia, Pittsburgh, Williamsburg, va and a point south of Pittsburgh but west of Williamsburgh???

Hershey, PA. Kids will love HersheyPark. Gettysburg just down the road too if history is your thing.

Besides Hershey, central PA is a shithole.

You could go to State College and piss on it.

There is a TON of road work in and around Pittsburgh right now, so out of towners will definitely get frustrated.

There is a national park in eastern PA called Steamtown, they have old timey steam engine trains you can ride. Depending on age of kids that could be cool. Going to take my 3 year old in the fall when it gets cooler.

Basically, I've lived in PA all my life and can't suggest anything if it isn't in Pittsburgh or Philly.

    Fuck pittsburgh

The drive across PA takes fucking forever and there is nothing out there in the middle of state. If you do go avoid the PA turnpike you will save about $45 in tolls take 80. Williamsburgh you at least have Busch Gardens and Colonial Williamsburgh

The PA turnpike is a fucking disaster. Construction everywhere, tolls up the ass.

When I have to cross PA I stay on the border in Youngstown in a motel. Then drive the next day on 80 I don't even stop to piss I use a Gatorade bottle until I hit the Delaware water gap

I forgot to mention how shitty the turnpike is here, thanks.

Think it costs like $20 to get across the state now on shitty unmaintained roads. At least the speed limit is 70 now.

Go north in Pennsylvania. Drive along route six. Wellsboro is a nice town. The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania is worth seeing. Kids would love the lumber museum. There are a lot of great roads to drive on up there.

I grew up crossing pa, had relatives in philly and Pittsburgh and a hunting cabin in roulette pa (north central). Just not familiar with the southern part of the state or wv/md.

Visited hersheypark, but someone said that "every n****r from philly and Pitt is there"... (The person is black too, lol). Not sure how that park held uo

Why would you go to Pittsburgh?

Go to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore, DC or Annapolis. The Maryland shore or VA Beach is way more fun than any Boston beaches. From Philly, you are only 2 hrs to the NJ Shore as well they have fun boardwalks that kids love.

Just left VA Beach yesterday with my family after a nice short trip. I hadn't been there for 25 years and was mostly impressed. Excellent clean beaches and far less trashy culture and commercialism than other Northeast beaches/boardwalks that I've experienced. They have a separate 24 hour bike path that parallels the (concrete) boardwalk. The inland streets are highly walkable - cars passed slowly and would actually stop at unsignalized crosswalks. I was unpleasantly shocked by the 11.5% tax on our restaurant checks, but at least it seems like they are reinvesting that money into the town better than most municipalities. Recommended!

There are also a pile of good minor league baseball stadiums between Scranton and Norfolk - I've been to pretty much all of them. You can actually see the action on the field with a $10 to $15 ticket. They almost all have fairly priced decent food and beer that won't leave you feeling cheated like at most MLB parks, and most have clever between-innings entertainment for young kids. Just a relaxing and fun summer environment without all the ESPN BS of the big leagues.
