Actor Rob Lowe on Wednesday lashed out at Sony Pictures for pulling the film "The Interview," writing on his Twitter account that "Hollywood has done Neville Chamberlain proud today," in a reference to the British premier who appeased Hitler in 1938.

Sony canceled the release of the Seth Rogen-James Franco comedy about the fictional assassination of North Korean leader Kim-Jong un, after hackers threatened to attack movie theaters where it was to be screened. Four of the largest cinema chains in the U.S. then announced they would not screen the film.

    and in other news....

does Rob Lowe have any regrets about the kiddie porn sex tape he made in 1988 ?

"I have fond memories—fond, fond memories," Lowe joked with me last night at the movie's premiere of his time in the sex tape spotlight.

    Chamberlain gets a bad rap.

He wasnt trying to appease Hitler, he was trying to keep the British Empire together.

    Sony is no Chamberlain.

    Rob Lowe is right.

Imagine the fact that someone doesnt like a movie and its pulled because a tin horn dictator threatened ..

    This county is all done.

    Are you happy?

With 0.0 liability should some shit head shoot up a theatre. ... Sony is in ass covering mode.

No way they want a kazillion dollar lawsuit over a movie that would have grossed 25 million

I never would have seen the movie in the first place. But appeasing Dictators sets a bad precedent.

Based on everything I've read, the prevailing public opinion is that Sony made a huge mistake by pulling the film's release. People are embarrassed by and ashamed of Sony's response to the actions and further threats by the terrorists. So again, this doesn't resemble 9/11. People weren't ashamed of the 9/11 victims for taking safety measures after the attacks. If anything, it seems to me that the public is siding with the Daily News by saying to Sony, "This is not 9/11, idiot!"

So what happens when someone makes a movie that paints Islam in a bad light? What happens the next time a conservative Christian group feels the Bible is not being accurately represented?

Even more to the point, what happens to when some creator has a great idea for an edgy piece but chooses not to create it.

Deposed or not, Fox Searchlight Pictures did make sure that Idi Amin was dead before they produced "The Last King Of Scotland"

incredibly limited release in a heavily guarded theater just to say "fuck you, you ain't stopping us". I think this was a missed opportunity to show the real strength of this country's freedoms

I guarantee it was the lawyers for Sony and the individual theater companies that got together and decided that they would be liable if (god forbid) something happened at a theater.

They knew that they would be sued to high heaven if anything occurred and, they didn't want to take that chance.

While I don't agree with bowing to this tiny dictator, I do see the companies point in protecting themselves.

Hitler analogies almost never go well. yes, they're allowing North Korea to extort them, but the consequences won't be as severe as what went down in 1938/9.
