    Bad time for a watch heist.

    An off-duty NYPD inspector and retired NYPD detective foiled a dimwitted robber who shot a 67-year-old employee at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, L.I. Tuesday in the height of shopping season, Nassau County officials and a police source said.

    The scary shooting following the alleged stickup at a Tourneu watch store sent holiday shoppers scrambling in what one witness called “a complete stampede.”

    "I did nothing heroic," said NYPD Inspector Kenneth Lehr. "I just happened to be at the scene. I was just there for support.”

    The robber walked into the store around 1 p.m. and flashed a gun near a display of high-end Rolex watches, Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano said.

    A security guard — who is a retired NYPD detective — grabbed the gun. During the struggle, the gun went off, hitting a worker “clear across the corridor,” according to off-duty NYPD Inspector Kenneth Lehr, who was in the mall doing some holiday shopping. The victim was in stable condition, officials said.

    Back when I lived on Long Island in the 80s that was considered a classy mall. Is that still the case? Or did it go all ghetto like the one in Valley Stream?

    My friend was there with his 4 year old daughter, two stores down.
    They hid in the stock room for over an hour.

    The Asian kid who did this is from Queens. 20 and lives with his parents. :rolleyes:

    The suspect, identified Wednesday as Oliver Lee, 21, of Little Neck, Queens, is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on first-degree robbery, weapons possession and multiple assault charges, officials said.

    Before the shooting, the suspect posted a picture of the gun on Facebook, County Executive Edward Mangano said Wednesday at a news conference

    The gun was unlicensed, and Lee, who is unemployed, had oxycodone pills in his possession at the time of his arrest, officials said

    Its actually a lot classier now than it was in the 80's. its been redone a lot and it very modern and classy looking. There are a bunch of high end restaurants there now. Capital Grille, Seasons 52, Houstons, Luxe. they are opening a Neiman Marcus any day now. My wife and I rarely go there unless we need to. Let's just say the customers are not as classy as the mall itself. We've been a few times this holiday season to shop and I thought I was in a third world country.
