So Wiggy talks this band up over the last few months like he's "discovered" them, and today makes an announcement that conveniently their new video debuts on hs.com….seems extremely shady.

I'll never forget the time on the Wrap Up show a couple years ago when Jason and Ross were arguing. Jason let it slip that Ross wanted to have Wiggy slip in some "code words" in exchange for advertisers $$.

This is a guy who listens to Miley Cyrus and Mountain, all of a sudden he's hip months ago to some unknown band from the U.K.?

    Total BS

I remember when Howard first discovered the Flaming Lips. It was four weeks ago, and they had just recorded a special promoting their new album -- which was to be broadcast exclusively on Howard 101 that week. He now knows of them only through the snippets from the special that he played on his show (and each song was a cover of a track from Sgt. Pepper's), yet he claims he's become a fan.

Doesn't seem that long ago that Howard was ridiculing Steve Brandano for wanting to book the Black Keys on the show. (Since then he of course had them play at his Birthday Bash, as a sort of warmup to the Skrillex interview that followed months later.)

Probably a Whalerock connection somewhere but no way does he keep mentioning them without some marbles involved.

I had exactly the same thought after posting. When I learned that Tyler the Creator was a Whalecock client, I made a note to keep a lookout for any mention of his name. (And why would that happen? Tyler the Creator should be nowhere on Gunk's radar.) Sure enough, last month Howard mentioned Tyler the Creator's antics at Coachella ("He called the festival organizer the N-word, Robin"), then asked Robin if they'd ever had him in the studio. "He seems like he'd be a good guest," Howard mused innocently ...

(A black rapper who throws around the N-word? BOOK HIM NOW!!!!)

I remember listening to the G. Gordon Liddy show and his advice to a parent with a kid in an unsuccessful band was to engage in payola. The other advice was to tell the kid he sucks.

I'm positive payola is bigger than ever.

I was just listening to that segment and it is OBVIOUS he or Buchwald has some piece of the action. He never plugs bands like that so why now

Howard still lives in the world of Cream and Mountain as far as music is concerned, anything else he promotes is to line his pockets.

The Royal Blood talk seems as organic as Squatty Potty, Apple and a parade of films and TV shows...

These guys sound like a ripoff of an indie band from 10 years ago - Death From Above 1979.

Howard has made some weird interjections about music lately. On today's show, when they were about to do the segment where staffers select new music they think Howard will like, Howard said, "You know who I like? The Meat Puppets." As evidence, he pointed to a song that was a minor hit 20 years ago. It's one of just two or three songs that he knows by the band, and the comment came out of nowhere.

A couple weeks ago he asked Fred and Robin if they were into the song "Plowed" by Sponge -- another minor hit from 20 years ago. (He then asked Fred to play it while he ate his breakfast at the start of the show.) This, too, came out of nowhere.

When they actually did play the new music selected by the staff, Howard initially liked the first song he heard, until the first verse kicked in. He immediately lost interest in it -- until Fred pointed out that it was on John Varvatos's record label. He then praised Varvatos for his taste in music, clothing, store design, and for being serious about music. He then said he'd have to give the song a chance and listen to more of it.

There isn't one second of that show that isn't being used as advertising for someone. I have no doubt about it.

"You know Robin, the other day I was on my squatty potty with my Tommy John underwear around my ankles when I heard this band, Royal Blood, on the radio..."

They're pretty good, they record the old way, no overdubs or computer effects.
