This sends a really bad message IMHO. Fung did everything possible to comply with the court and filter out copyright infringing torrents, and still ends up with a $110 million judgment against him. Pretty ridiculous, it seems to me the court punished him more for frustration at lacking jurisdiction to take on TPB.

I know, but it's just the point of it. They did everything possible to comply and STILL got this judgment, Yung will be destitute for life as a result. Just ridiculous.

I've used them for legal purposes, to download linux isos and humble bundles. Anyone who ever used a torrent to download something illegally was an idiot, any form of P2P is an incredible security risk.

You'd think the entertainment industry would embrace this technology and use it to their benefit but they insist on sticking with the old outdated methods of distribution clinging to the hope that they can somehow make the internet go away.

No, the court ordered Yung to impose a search filter that blocked whatever terms the MPAA and RIAA desired, which ended up blocking tons of public domain stuff. So if you searched "Rocky" it would block not only the movie, but public domain stuff related to Rocky Marciano. Same thing with public domain recordings of Shakespeare, old silent movies, etc. There were artists who seeded their own music and released with a CCC, only to have the RIAA file a frivolous DMCA takedown against them for seeding their own content.

Good for you my friend, anyone with half a brain knew that Copyright Trolling was going to come around eventually. The shitty thing is that now you have to be paranoid about people getting onto your wifi and downloading torrents on your network.

That's what I'm saying though, they destroyed Yung's life because they can't get at TPB. So what they're basically saying is "Operate in the U.S. and comply with our laws and court orders, face a $110 million judgment anyway. Move out of jurisdiction and ignore DMCA takedowns, nothing happens to you." I just don't understand how the MPAA or RIAA think this is a good thing.

Why anyone would think to host that kind of website in the US is beyond me.
