I worked with bill Cosby on fat Albert. he had two of the writers write his phd thesis.
How courageous of Sam to come out with this now, when he's on death's door and Cosby is Public Enemy no. 1.
Ouch. Embarrassing. Good thing he didn't do something like drug and rape a bunch of women!
Nothing to lose
I bet people will be more willing to believe the PhD thing, unfortunately
Not surprised. Cosby is apparently a tremendous, tremendous scumbag.
Someone should send him a thank you box of Omah Steaks.
Yeah, he and the writers should have tweeted about it 30 years ago
You guys know this is a joke right? Cosby has (had) an honorary doctorate....he didn't have to write anything.
cartoon writers are smart enough to write a PhD thesis?
sam must be hallucinating, or hoping people don't know that.
and i think he used the letters EdD anyway.
Dr. William H. Cosby, EdD, IIRC
Don't hate the player
I thought Sam Simon was dead?
No he has a bunch of honorary ones but an actual doctorate earned from UMASS in the 1970s.
Bill Cosby is sometimes referred to as Dr. Cosby because he has a doctorate in education from the University of Massachusetts of Amherst. He earned the degree in the mid 1970s — with a thesis titled “An Integration of the Visual Media Via Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids (1972) into the Elementary School Curriculum as a Teaching Aid and Vehicle to Achieve Increased Learning” — but how he got the degree has been controversial ever since.
According to Michael Eric Dyson, a sociology professor at Georgetown University and an acclaimed author of “Is Bill Cosby Right?” and numerous other books:
[Cosby] dropped out of high school after he flunked the tenth grade three times. He enlisted in the Navy, where he got his GED, and then enrolled at Temple University, where he dropped out to pursue a show business career. His unfinished bachelor’s degree from Temple was eventually bestowed on him because of “life experience.” Cosby enrolled as a part-time doctoral student at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, which awarded him the Ed.D. degree in 1977 for a dissertation on Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids.
But not even that degree was unsullied by controversy: A professor who served on Cosby’s dissertation committee, Reginald Damerell, said that Cosby hardly took a class — and that he got course credit for appearing on Sesame Street and The Electric Company, “and wrote a dissertation that analyzed the impact of his show.”
Regardless of Sam's good deeds or accomplishments, anyone who leaves their dog millions of dollars in the will goes in the wackadoo category with Marge Schott.
He does have a bunch of honorary degrees, but he does have a real doctorate of Ed. From Wikipedia:
"In 1976, Cosby earned a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His dissertation discussed the use of Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids as a teaching tool in elementary schools."
The thesis was written about Fat Albert.
Ahh. I didn't know about his first one. I though he got all of it 'after' as honours.
Nevertheless, he got this with a thesis about fat albert? That's no better.
