"Robin, I predicted this, she never knew when to leave" http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/x-factor-final-2014-mel-4807446 X Factor judge Mel B was under constant supervision in hospital last night as medics battled to tackle her “serious” mystery illness. The Spice Girl, 39, was in a high dependency unit – a level down from intensive care – with security on guard and worried husband Stephen Belafonte at her bedside. A source close to the star said there was “next to no chance” she’d appear on tonight’s part two of X Factor’s grand final. Doctors are carrying out tests and will decide today how long Mel could stay in hospital. Her spokesman said: “It’s serious.” Mel was forced to miss the first round of The X Factor final last night, as her contestant Andrea Faustini took on Fleur East and Ben Haenow. Former judge Tulisa Contostavlos filled in for her, as her co-stars revealed their fears for the star. Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, 31, told pals: “I’m beside myself with worry. I know what it’s like to work flat out on The X Factor. It’s gruelling and Mel has put her heart and soul into the series and her contestants.” Frantic Cheryl also made a series of calls to Mel’s family in a bid for updates and a pal of the ex-Girls Aloud singer said: “Mel is devastated not to be there for the final. It’s a worrying time for all of her friends.” Show boss Simon Cowell also phoned the hospital yesterday to check up on his star. He told pals: “I’m worried for Mel. I just want her to get better fast.” A source close to Simon added: “No one has worked harder than Mel on this series. There were no warning signs – it’s like a star striker being forced to miss the FA Cup final.” At the beginning of yesterday’s show, host Dermot O’Leary said: “Late last night we got the news that Mel will be unable to join us due to illness. She’s gutted. “We wish her a speedy recovery and we know she will be cheering her boy on.” Leeds-born Mel attended an urgent care unit on Thursday but was quickly identified as a more serious case by concerned doctors. The medics are due to get test results back for the star today, which they hope will shed more light on her illness. Her mother Andrea Brown, who lives in West Yorkshire, had not been told which private hospital in London her X Factor star daughter had been admitted to. Doctors ordered total rest. A source for the ITV reality show said: “Everyone is very worried about Mel. Simon has been in constant contact with her husband.
