So, on WPLJ in New York, Scott Shannon retired after 20+ years of The Scott and Todd Show. This was sort of a big deal and, since O&A and Howard Stern were both NY radio veterans, they each acknowledged the situation on their show. Opie and Anthony prepared clips of the brand new Todd Show that now occupies the morning drive slot on WPLJ. They spent over an hour hilariously ripping the horrible show to shreds. Opie and Anthony fans then took to Twitter and bombed The Todd Show hashtag with pornographic images and gore. It trended nationally through the afternoon, and the fallout was quite amusing. In a fascinating twist, O&A got Scott Shannon on the phone. Despite his corny morning radio career, he comes off as funnier and realer than Howard. He even acknowledges how things changed when Howard came to New York and says he couldn't keep up with that type of radio. Despite being a Stern punching bad for years, Scott seems like a much more normal, likeable person than Howard. Meanwhile, Howard dealt with the story by... giving the same sleepy assessment of the radio industry that he always does, which is essentially a crystallized snapshot of the business when he last understood it in 1995. With no sense of irony, Howard mentioned that Scott was an elderly wash-up who should've left the game a long time ago. The conversation petered. Gary came in and speculated that Scott Shannon may have been forced out. The conversation petered again. Bored, Howard yawned on to the next topic. Sorry for the stupid post - I just wanted to take a moment and draw a comparison between a radio show that tries and The Howard Stern Show.
