Second GOP Congressman Admits Benghazi Committee Is All About Hillary Clinton

A second congressman admitted on Wednesday that the Republican House committee created to investigate the 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, is solely "designed to go after" Hillary Clinton.

“This may not be politically correct, but I think that there was a big part of this investigation that was designed to go after people and an individual, Hillary Clinton,” Rep. Richard Hanna (R-N.Y.) said on a morning radio show in upstate New York.

Republicans say they formed the House Select Committee on Benghazi to investigate the attack. Democrats have complained that the committee, which has cost taxpayers about $4.5 million during its 17 months of existence, was primarily a political stunt.

House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) last month let it slip that the committee aimed to sink Clinton's poll numbers. His gaffe reverberated across Capitol Hill and was a major factor in McCarthy's abrupt decision to drop out of the race to replace outgoing House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).

McCarthy later walked back his comments, claiming he misspoke.

But on Wednesday, Hanna suggested that McCarthy was being truthful.

"Sometimes the biggest sin you can commit in D.C. is to tell the truth," Hanna said.

Clinton, who has repeatedly said she is cooperating with the committee's investigation, is set to testify next week.

On Sunday, a former committee staffer alleged that the chairman, Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), fired him for not focusing the probe on Clinton and the State Department.

Clinton's campaign on Wednesday held up Hanna's comments as further proof that the committee has "zero credibility."

"House Republicans aren't even shy anymore about admitting that the Benghazi Committee is a partisan farce," campaign spokesman Brian Fallon said in a statement. "After failing to produce any new information on the tragic 2012 attacks at Benghazi despite a 17-month investigation, John Boehner has reportedly urged the committee to shift its focus to Hillary Clinton's emails in an ongoing effort to try to hurt her politically. Hillary Clinton will still attend next week's hearing, but at this point, Trey Gowdy's inquiry has zero credibility left."

Did not read. Have spent maybe 20 minutes total ever reading anything about the Benghazi investigation...what a colossal waste of time and money.

May be true - probably is. But the FBI investigation into Hillary's email is NOT being controlled by that investigation.

It was the Bengazi Panel that uncovered the truth about the existence of the email server and brought it to the public. And so for that it has done the country a great service.

Hillary's stupidity and desire to control her communication has put our country at greater risk, exposed confidential information to the world, etc.

I don't think she broke any laws with the handling of Benghazi. But she did with the email server stuff.

For that, the House Committee has been a good thing.

Not that I have any sympathy or respect for Hillary but this is partisan politics.. just like making a mountain out of a BJ molehill was at Ken Starr's partisan initiative funded by Richard Mellon Scaife. And then there was the dismantling of war hero John Kerry's reputation. I'm sure valid counterpoints can be made of Democrats skapegoating and kangeroo court-ing GOPs.

Either way, when you have such a partisan aggressive effort to neuter a politician, you need to consider the source and take the findings with a grain of salt.

Criminal mishandling of sensitive emails aside, she knew we had people fighting for their lives at that mission and, despite repeated requests from outside agencies to render assistance, her response was to head home and catch up on reruns of the Golden Girls. Of course she's the primary focus of the probe.

Like exaggerating Romney's record at Bain to make him sound like an evil CEO and then the minute the election was over, talking about what a good guy he is.

It's almost like the GOP wants Hillary to be the nominee because of her weaknesses.

It was a spontaneous protest using RPG's due to a "disgusting" video in a different country in a language barely anyone in Libya spoke and had literally less than 250 views at the time of the attack.

Oh and she made policy changes in Libya so her long time friend could make business deals (with her undoubtedly sharing in the deal).

By now, everyone is aware this is an arms deal gone bad, not a "protest."

You are damn right this barely human pile of garbage is the main focus of the probe, as well she should be.

Typical teatards. Can't watch a minute of Fox News anymore. Sure, they've always been partisan, but all they're doing is promoting the hell out of this shit. They know damn well what they're doing. They want us to all be abuzz so they can line their pockets.
