The Secret Service is investigating a Donald Trump adviser who said in a radio interview that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton should be "shot for treason" on a "firing line."

Al Baldasaro, a New Hampshire representative who serves on Trump's veterans' coalition and as a Trump delegate at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, said in an interview with a Boston talk radio host that Clinton should pay for the 2012 Benghazi attack.

"She is a disgrace for any, the lies she told those mothers about their children that got killed over there in Benghazi," he said on the Jeff Kuhner Show Tuesday. "She dropped the ball on over 400 emails requesting back up security. Something's wrong there."

"Hillary Clinton should be put in the firing line and shot for treason," he continued.

His comments about Clinton were first reported by Buzzfeed.

The House Select Committee on Benghazi, in its final report, criticized the State Department for the lack of adequate security at the consulate ahead of the 2012 attack, but did not find that Clinton was personally responsible for making security decisions. The Clinton camp called the report a "partisan sham."

Asked about Baldasaro's comments, Secret Service spokesman Robert Hoback said the agency is "aware of this matter and will conduct the appropriate investigation."

Baldasaro did not immediately return a request from ABC News for comment.

Clinton Communications Director Jen Palmieri said in a statement: "Donald Trump's overtaking of the Republican party – and his constant escalation of outrageous rhetoric – is in danger of mainstreaming the kind of hatred that has long been relegated to the fringes of American politics where it belongs. This week at the Republican convention, we've seen the clearest embodiment yet of this dangerous phenomenon."

Why are Republicans always so angry, like with all the screaming and flailing Monday night? How have they not all keeled over from heart attacks by now? I mean look at the guy's face, you'd think a dog is mauling his testicles out of frame.

Wasn't Chris Christie's "mock trial by mob rule in-absentia" one of the creepiest things in some time? Call her a criminal and move on.

I wonder if that's how Governor White Castle tried and convicted Trump's son-in-law's dad when he sent that guy to the clink.

seemed like this site was heavily Republican but today there is a liberal faction out in force.

The Republicans must be staying late at their jobs today.

Are you nuts? You cannot incite violence or threaten a president or a candidate. Some knobs online are finding that out the hard way

...hes an ex marine talking about an accusation of treason. not securing confidential emails is treason. not sending help to those cia people in banghazi when they asked for it time and time again, treason. if they werent going to send the help they needed they should have taken them out of there.

He wasn't inciting violence. He was advocating that 18 U.S. Code § 2381 be enforced. Not once did he ask for vigilante justice or even suggest it.

Personally I don't think that capital punishment would be called for, I'd be happy with the not less than 5 years in jail aspect of the law.

Agreed. National Security is something that shouldn't be trifled with. They should both share a jail cell as far as I'm concerned.

publicly suggesting the shooting a presidential candidate who is under secret service protection just might be the dumbest thing anybody can ever do regardless of political beliefs or party affiliation...even if not done seriously or merely in jest...it is ok to disagree with a candidate or even hate them but publicly suggest they be shot and you should probably expect a visit from the secret service seeking further explanation..
