I need health insurance. Never had it. Don't know anything about it. I would be considered poor by US standards, but I do OK because I live in Florida.

Is Obamacare real? I hate taking advantage of anything that asshole has to offer, but then again, the insurance companies are just as big of assholes. If I can exploit their weakness while it lasts, that could be good for me.

Either way, just looking for any and all opinions for what would be the best way to go for me financially. Thank you Shedders ahead of time.

My understanding is that the monthly premiums are good, but they fuck you on the deductible.

obamacare is real however you likely make too much to qualify, you need to be sometihng like 2x the poverty line. My dad has obamacare its an incredibly good deal IF you can get it. Also enrollment is over so you cant sign up until next year i think

ObamacareUSA.org is a free website that makes it easy for you to find and compare nearly every single health plan.
Through our extensive partnerships and leading technology, we are plugged into the databases of all the major insurers and government exchanges/marketplaces. What this means is that you can compare multiple health plans, both private and government, all in one place -- with just a few clicks of the mouse!

If you go thru the Florida Marketplace you'll have a bunch of different plans you can pick from....You'll have to tell them how much you make a year and the tax credit will be based on this...Lower deductable will cost more

Seen way too many bankruptcies from people who go commando on health insurance. Get something. Now.

The fly in the ointment is the pending Burwell case. My understanding is that the federal exchange is the only game in town in Florida, and if the US Supreme Court rules against federal subsidies in the federal exchanges, Florida residents will be in tough shape, as the state is also battling against any expansion in Medicaid.

If they really cared about helping citizens in times of need, you'd just go to the doc and show your social security card. Then they could work something out. Instead, they try to create the NHS in America in 2 years. The NHS took 50 years to get to where it is now, and it's not as good as our regular system used to be. Plus the tax rate is crazy. Fucking rigoddamdiculous. I ignore it. Pay for a check up out of pocket then go from there. End rant.

Before Obamacare came around, I was paying $70/month with a $3,500 deductible. Now I pay $135/month with a $6,600 deductible. Therefore, I will never go to the doctor unless I'm dying. After voting democrat in the last 4 elections, I will be voting republican from now on.

Did you get sick and now need it? Then go to the Obamacare stuff.

If you're generally healthy just apply with companies in your state or Kaiser Permanente HMO. You can check rates at some places. If you're over 40, it will be more expensive than if you're in your 20's.

I am healthy and 41 years old. This stuff is confusing to me. But I feel it is necessary.

I appreciate all the input and help.

Look around for a health insurance broker. (An independent agent that sells for several companies).
I dealt with one about a year ago.
    He was pretty helpful.
He seemed to understand the ins and outs of private insurance and O-care.
    Good luck.

Why not take advantage of the included no-fee wellness aspects? Money out the window otherwise.
