Heard part of the replay today, several people who were at the Tampa show called in and had some interesting things to say. One guy said that half the people who were waiting to get seats were pulled out of the line and told to stand by the water, cheer wildly, and pretend they were waiting to welcome Howard when he arrived by boat. Another said that during the taping people were told to yell Howard's name and "Baba Booey", even though some of them didn't know what it meant or who Howard was. It was also mentioned that a lot of time was spent filming "reaction shots", where people were told to jump out of their seats and go nuts even though no one was on stage and nothing was happening. Whenever the subject of anything fake or negative came up, Mutt (probably on cue from Jason) or one of the panelists would interrupt or change the subject. Howard's been trying to give the impression that the crowd reaction to him was sincere and spontaneous, but apparently it's not.

There is only so much even a Mutt can take having to go along with Howard's self appraisal, Robin.

Howard's big mistake in all of this is, there is no longer a handful of lifetime employees locked down in a windowless environment, sworn to secrecy, and continually threatened with losing their jobs if the boss gets upset
He loved talking about Rosie, and Ellen etc and their problems dealing with real people. Let's see what develops with Mr. Nice Guy

I think the small turnout at his last Letterman appearance on his home turf tells us all we need to know about Howards popularity.
The set-up shots are a part of all these "reality" shows, every last one of them.

Don't knock those guys. JHIG provides interesting pictures of Howard Stern-related events (like our friend Lou Cypher), and BenBas has some level-headed opinions (as long winded as they come).

I really enjoyed the purple-shirt-kid's performance. He has a future in Hollywood.

The kids are into The Voice and X-Factor so I watched a lot of shows with them.. (Thats my story) and you can tell the horrible editing on the reaction shots are just cut and paste into cut aways. Terrible editing in places. I'm sure AGT will be the same.

You mean all those Asians in SF weren't really Howard Stern groupies? I'm shocked!! It's like that with every show. Even when you go to Letterman there's coaxing going on. They picked people who seemed perky out of the line to sit up front. And whenever they go to commercial, someone stands on the stage and coaxes you to stand and clap the whole time while the band plays. It gets tiring standing there and clapping all that time.

The stuff we see staged for Howard is no different than the staging that takes place at half time of a Thanksgiving day football game or the Super Bowl. The people crowding the stage and jumping around like they're at a concert aren't even fans from the stands. They come in right before halftime and fill up the sideline. The stage gets rolled out, the band plays, and once it's all done those people leave.
