Shaquille O’Neal has been a very public friend to law enforcement at every stop on his NBA career, but now the TNT analyst is finding himself on the wrong end of police attention. Shaq is being investigated for a possible assault as part of an incident from March 19 at the TNT studios in Atlanta, reports WSB-TV in Atlanta after obtaining the police report. Through his attorney Shaq has denied any wrongdoing. Let’s get the disclaimer out there first — being investigated is very different from being charged with a crime. Someone has filed a complaint against O’Neal but the truth of what really happened is far from clear, that’s what police are trying to sort out. Here is the key parts from the WSB-TV report: Channel 2’s Ryan Young obtained a police report detailing the incident, but so far, O’Neal has not been charged with anything… “(The co-worker) alleged Shaquille O’Neal tackled him to the ground causing injury to his back while they were at work at Turner Studios,†said Sgt. Greg Lyon with the Atlanta Police Department…. No one ever called police that night. O’Neal has not been charged. But the police department is still doing an investigation…. O’Neal’s attorney, Dennis Roach, sent a statement about the incident saying, “This was nothing more than horseplay. No one intended for anyone to get injured.†The victim’s attorney said that surgery was required for the injuries sustained. The intent of O’Neal in any incident very well may not matter. At this point in any investigation it is wise to take everybody’s account with a grain of salt. Or a handful. And to question what everyone’s motivation may be. It will be interesting to see how TNT handles this. Because the alleged incident took place on their property you can bet that the company’s lawyers will be all over this as well. http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....ident-at-tnt-studios/comment-page-1/#comments http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/shaquille-oneal-under-investigation-alleged-assaul/nfKdT/ Channel 2 Action News has learned former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal is under investigation by the Atlanta Police Department for an alleged assault. Channel 2’s Ryan Young obtained a police report detailing the incident, but so far, O’Neal has not been charged with anything. Shaquille O’Neal is known for being a bigger-than-life figure who fans adore. He even claims to have a big love for law enforcement. But now Young has learned the one-time NBA superstar and basketball commentator for TNT finds himself under investigation for what a co-worker claims happened at Turner Studios. “(The co-worker) alleged Shaquille O’Neal tackled him to the ground causing injury to his back while they were at work at Turner Studios,†said Sgt. Greg Lyon with the Atlanta Police Department. The incident took place on May 19 at the studios located at Techwood Drive and 10[SUP]th[/SUP] Street. Robert Williams went to the Atlanta Police Department and said that Shaq tackle-punched him, knocking him down and falling on top of him. Sources told Young that Williams suffered serious injuries. “I don’t know the extent of his injury, but I have heard that as well, that his injuries were severe to his back,†Lyon said. No one ever called police that night. O'Neal has not been charged. But the police department is still doing an investigation. “The investigation was initially handled by the zone and as that investigation deepened, it was transferred (to) the complex case squad,†Lyon said. “At the conclusion of their investigation, we’ll have their findings and we’ll go forth from there, whether charges will be filed, whether it be reviewed by the DA’s Office.†O’Neal’s attorney, Dennis Roach, sent a statement about the incident saying, “This was nothing more than horseplay. No one intended for anyone to get injured.†Young went to Williams’ home Monday afternoon to ask him about the incident but no one answered the door. Williams’ attorney sent Young a statement saying, “We understand that the physical attack by Shaquille O'Neal upon Mr. Robert Williams is under criminal investigation. Mr. Williams is presently recovering after surgery. “However, he does state emphatically, that the permanent injuries he received were not the result of participation in any form of 'horseplay.'"
