NEW ORLEANS —Five people were wounded in a shooting at the intersection of LaSalle Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard on Monday afternoon.

Well it couldn't have been mayor Ray Nagin that did it. He was in jail at the time

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/ray-nagin-orleans-mayor-indicted-bribery/story?id=18253548
The indictment charges that Nagin established a family company in 2005 called Stone Age LLC and allegedly put bribes and kickback checks into the firm's accounts.

"Nagin on or about May 23, 2006 accepted a bribery/kickback payoff from Businessman 'A' in the form of private jet travel and limousine services to New York City," the indictment alleges.

The indictment says that on the same day, Nagin allegedly waived penalties that were owed by the businessman on a delinquent tax bill owed to the City of New Orleans.

The indictment also alleges Nagin accepted $50,000 from businessman Frank Fradella as well as monthly wire transfers of $12,500 that totaled $112,500. Fradella pleaded guilty to bribing a New Orleans city official in June 2012.

Prosecutors alleged that on June 20, 2009 Nagin awarded a $1 million Katrina sidewalk repair project to a local businessman. On June 21, the very next day, a Nagin family member allegedly was paid a $10,000 kickback from that businessman.

"This indictment should serve as a reminder to current and former public officials that, in the interest of full accountability, the FBI pursues corruption even after an official leaves office," said Michael Anderson, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI's New Orleans Field Office.

A defense attorney for Nagin could not be identified from the court docket. Nagin, who served as New Orleans' mayor from 2002 to 2010, is expected to have a court appearance later this month

We don't have enough blacks down here to come close to having a parade for MLK day. Even the ones they tried to ship here after Katrina left within a month of being here. Most turned around and left as soon as they got here. Last I heard there was only 1 family that stayed here. That woman killed a guy jogging in an MVA in front of my kid's band practice before school.

Suspect Sought in Robbery of Treme Hotel

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying and locating a man wanted in connection with a hotel robbery that occurred at the Empress Hotel in the 1300 block of Ursuline Avenue.
On January 14, 2013, shortly before 6:30 A.M., the suspect entered the lobby and approached the counter holding a dark colored pouch. The suspect then placed the pouch on the counter continuing to hold it as he demanded money from the clerk. In fear of having a gun inside the pouch, the clerk complied. The incident was captured on surveillance video.
Surveillance video of the incident has been distributed to local media outlets.
The suspect is described as an African-American man, approximately 6’2”-6’5” tall, weighing approximately 350 pounds and last seen wearing a black knit cap with a Fleur de Lis on the front , a white t-shirt, dark colored shorts, white socks and dark slip-on style shoes.
The suspect may possibly be driving a teal over tan or cream Ford Explorer with a broken out rear window covered in black plastic.

Aaron Broussard began plotting to pilfer public money even before he took office asJefferson Parish president. He admitted it in court Tuesday, pleading guilty to cooking up a sham job for his girlfriend and outright stealing $28,158, as well as conspiring to take $66,000 in bribes from a parish contractor.
That acknowledgement ended his three-year resistance against the federal investigation. And it provided a criminal coda to his 35-year career in public office in Louisiana's second most populous parish.
"This might be my last quote," the loquacious Broussard told reporters upon arrival at the U.S. District Courthouse in New Orleans. "At 23 years old, I came into politics as a dragon slayer. At 63 years old, I'm going out as a dragon."
Minutes later, he became the last of five defendants to admit guilt in the investigation of his administration, which ended with his sudden resignation in 2010. Over more than three decades on the Jefferson School Board and Parish Council, as mayor ofKenner and finally as parish president, Broussard developed a reputation as a colorful, caring, comedic and creative politician who knew how to win elections and, once victorious, how to help not only constituents but also his friends and himself.

Ruff -- do you live in the nice part of New Orleans? Is there a nice part?

You see, I live in Oakalnd -- the No. 4 most dangerous city in America -- yet I feel totally safe.

And that's because I don't live in the dangerous part.

    Well, I do and don't.

There were only 11 murders in my area last year.

I live within close proximity of wealthy homes (to the East) and drug dealers and gang members (to the West).

But I'm totally comfortable with wear I live.

Former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards and his wife, the former Trina Scott, will star in their own reality TV show, The Governor's Wife, which will premier in late February, Entertainment Weekly reported Friday. The show will air on A&E and follows Trina, 34, as she negotiates a new role as wife of the 85-year-old four-term governor. A mother of teenage sons, Trina also is now stepmother to Edwards' daughters, both of whom are nearly twice her age.
"Between school projects, running for president of the Homeowner's Association, fending off skeptics who think she's a gold digger, and thoughts of adding a baby of their own to the mix, the Edwards clan truly represent a new take on the

William Jefferson, the former nine-term congressman, was convicted Wednesday of11 of 16 counts of public corruption in a verdict that prosecutors said could send the 62-year-old New Orleans Democrat to prison for 20 years.
But, in an ironic twist, Jefferson was not convicted of the charge directly related to the $90,000 that was found wrapped in foil and sandwiched between Boca burgers and Pillsbury pie crust boxes when the FBI raided his Washington, D.C., home four years ago this week.
