Regal Cinemas will host midnight shows of Sharknado on August 2 at roughly 200 theaters across the country, including New York City's Regal Union Square Stadium 14 and L.A.'s Regal L.A. Live Stadium 14.

Sharknado created a Twitter frenzy when it first aired on Syfy two weeks ago. A follow-up film, in which the Sharknado invades New York City, was recently announced and is set to air on Syfy in 2014.
Regal is hoping to create an experience similar to theatrical showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show by featuring Sharknado on the big screen.

“You know how audiences have had fun with Rocky Horror Picture Show over the years. If the internet reactions to this film are any indication, then our moviegoers are primed and ready to enjoy Sharknado larger than life in cinemas,” Chris Sylvia, director of digital marketing for Regal Entertainment Group, said in a statement. “Regal is proud to be giving our guests this chance to fuel the social media whirlwind by inviting friends to come to the show and tweeting reactions.”
Ken Thewes, Regal's chief marketing officer added: “There’s just something epic about watching these huge beasts on the big screen with your friends and family. The crowd reactions will make for a memorable experience in our theatres.”
    Tickets will cost $12.50 each.

Courtesy of Howard Stern. I wonder if he'll sue for a cut of the profits since his on-air mention made it the hit that it is.

It was on again Sat. I tried very hard to watch it but it was so horrendously bad I kept leaving and coming back to it. Only to bail again and again after 5 minutes. Its not any better or worse that all the crappy SfyFy movies but somehow this one found some publicity.

Why pay to go sit in a theater full of popcorn munching mouth breathers to see a movie you can watch for FREE, at home?

That's stupid. They're trying so hard to force this into cult movie territory and it's just not going to work.

The reason that movies like Troll 2 gained cult followings is because they're made by people who legitimately think they're creating art. The "So bad it's good" model doesn't work when the intention is to make a shitty movie.

The opening boat/shark fin smuggling scene was a WTF moment because it was designed to be a WTF moment. It made no sense and wasn't supposed to. That's just shitty, manipulative crap movie making. I'm surprised they didn't purposely leave the boom mic in a couple of frames as well.

How does anyone confuse Sharktopus with Sharknado? It would be like watching the Godfather when you meant to watch Citizen Kane.

would not watch again, even for free.
It might have been better in 3-D but still terrible.
