probably fired with everyone else over there, but since he only plays the bars/firehouses on weekends, staying on sirius for free as an unpaid intern to get some air time and some plugs - with nothing else to do during the day, and clearly can't be at home with his wife and 2 kids, a good plan actually. still gets his $200 for jay thomas each week, and gets to go to west virginia for nicole bass nudey shows with the coal miners and go to underdog lady parades. still as unfunny and desperate/thirsty as ever

edit: Pittsburgh pete owned his ass 2 weeks ago

This was actually said? That poor bastard. All I can think of is when he was in Artie's chair yelling, "I'm not IN the newsroom anymore!"

And when they kicked his ass back into the news room the following week, he waited outside the studio door every day hoping that Howard would give him a second chance. They gave him a taste of sirloin and then banished him to McDonalds :snicker:

All of these little moves make me completely believe that Howard is planning on re-signing with Sirius. If he wasn't, then they would just ride the current contract out with the show in the current form with current staff. There would be no reason not to. But they're not. They're "re-tooling". That tells me there's obviously a plan beyond the end of this year.

My guess is that they're going to go to a show setup that will largely be remote, for Howard and Robin. Fred, Gary, JD, and Sal and Richard will stay where they are, as will the other handful of people.

My guess is Howard will fly up from Florida probably once a week, for the day, to do the big celeb interviews face to face. They wouldn't do those remotely, and Stern won't give those marquee interviews up. It's the only way the show gets any publicity from time to time. Or maybe once every two weeks will be all interviews, so he only has to come in every other week. Something like that will happen though.

Either that, or he'll go to his own branded and produced show that will be available online. Pay-per-show, or a monthly fee. If he does that, it could all be run out of Florida, although getting big names to go to Florida for an interview would be very difficult. If he charged $13 per month and he could get 4 million to subscribe (I think that's nuts, but we all know he thinks that number would be EASY), that's a $52,000,000 budget for the year. Add in advertisers and subtract tax breaks exploiting various angles... He's probably thinking he could have a near $100 mill budget per year for the show, a good percentage of which he could pocket.

But the point is... If they're still goofing with staff, there's gotta be a long term plan either in place already, or in process.

That, or they're planning on keeping a few people around to "host" an endless loop of "Best of" Howie segments.

$13 per month? I wouldn't pay 13 cents per year for that kind of horseshit.

I actually fully believe that if they put all the tapes into a searchable library, he'd EASILY get his 4 million subscribers for an online show. Probably more. Even most of us here who hate what the show has become would probably cough up $13 per month if we could listen to literally any show at our fingertips and have it work properly.

I used that as a number just because I think that's about what people pay for Sirius.

But to my other point... If I could search and listen to any show from the archives anytime I wanted? I'd pay the $13.

Or they are planning on low balling him or not renewing his contract - and they are cutting all staff & cost that isn't in the contract.

The Stern Talent staff is contract. That's Stern, Blibin, Fred and Gary. The rest are just Sirius employees. So if Sirius needs to cut show related costs - because advertising revenue is down, for example - Sirius can cut to their hearts content.

And somehow Stern can justify all these folks getting canned while he gets his millions. I guess in his mind he's given them a forum to excel.
