    Nope, not Sam Simon (yet)....

Don Payne, a co-executive producer of "The Simpsons" and "Thor" screenwriter, died in Los Angeles on Tuesday after battling cancer. He was 48.

The University of California, Los Angeles graduate won four primetime Emmys with "The Simpsons" since joining the Fox show's writing staff in 1998. Payne wrote 16 episodes, including "Fraudcast News," which earned him the 2005 Writers Guild Paul Selvin Award.

And when Sam dies, it would be "Simpsons co-creator dies"

Well, it IS a long-running show, so I suppose deaths are inevitable. Still, only 48...that sucks.

How many major voice actors have they lost?

    Just Phil Hartman?

I mean, if it was cursed, Lisa Simpson would be dead.

Sam's personality is pure cancer. He is the Typhoid Mary of cancer. Anyone that comes in contact with him is at risk. Ralph is currently shitting tumors.

Non-recurring that I can think of: Michael Jackson and George Harrison. I'm sure if we went through the list we might find a lot more :(

    Staff members and regular characters:

    Michael P. Schoenbrun {dh}
    passed away on 6.5.1993
He was the executive in Charge of Production for Gracie Films. [9F21] was dedicated to his memory.
    Christopher Collins
passed away on 6.12.94 due to a cerebral hemorrhage
Born Christopher Charles Collins, but often credited as Christopher Latta, he provided the voice for Moe Syzslak and Mr. Burns in Season 1 then left the show for a stand-up comedy career.
    Doris Grau
passed away on 12.30.95 due to respiratory failure
[3F10] "In Loving Memory of Doris Grau". Don Del Grande notes that Doris Grau died of respiratory failure on December 30 at age 71. For those of you who don't know, Doris was the voice of Lunch Lady Doris, as well as Doris the hairdresser on `The Critic'. Originally, she was the `script girl supervisor' on a number of series, including `The Tracey Ullman Show' (she also made a couple of appearances in sketches) and the first few seasons of `The Simpsons'. In the words of Doris the Hairdresser (from `The Critic'): `I know a few tricks about hair and teeth. Always wear hair. Always wear teeth.'"
She provided the voice for Lurleen Lumpkin in Marge vs. the Monorail [9F10], "I spent last night in a ditch." Lunch lady Doris has appeared since the death of Ms. Grau, but without speaking parts.
A Memorium for Doris Grau was printed in Bongo Comics.
    Jackie Banks
    passed away in 1995
Animation Checker and Scene Planner for various episodes during the second, fourth, fifth and sixth seasons. Episode [3F06] was dedicated to her memory.
    Sunni Walton

Characters include: Troy McClure, Lionel Hutz, Lyle Lanley. Episode [5F22] was dedicated to him and his characters have been retired.

    Kent Holaday
passed away 6.22.01 from a thyroid condition.
Worked on lip sync for The Simpsons and half a dozen other shows including Futurama, King of the Hill, Rugrats and Daria. Lip synch is that impossible task of synching a character's mouth with the actor's voice.
    Dan DeCarlo
    passed away 12.18.01 from pneumonia.
Not directly connected with the show, but a legendary comic artist who worked on the Treehouse of Horror, Radioactive Man and Bart Simpson comics, and who prior to his work at Bongo created memorable characters such as Josie and the Pussycats, Sabrina the Teenage Witch (with George Gladir) and drew Archie's Girls Betty and Veronica for over forty years.
Farewell to a Friend: Dan DeCarlo was printed in Bongo Comics.

That's not enough people to call it cursed. The show has been on for 24 years.

True...but I also didn't list all of the many guest stars who have died during the show's run. It's a fair bet that almost anyone over 60 when it started is dead now.
