Just re-listening to an old appearance of Rick's on THSS and the exchange went something like this:

Howard: I operate on a very childish level; if I have success, then nobody else should have success.
Artie: That's why Jackie left, he couldn't get at the marbles.
Howard: That's right, Jackie took his marbles and went home.
Rick: I know, Sirius offered me $45 dollars a show; you really do have all the fuckin' marbles!

I didn't realize the "Revolution" involved slave wages even for on-air talent. What a joke. So now we know that Bubba and Jay Thomas (now) are/were making fuck all, and depend on outside sources of income. Absolutely pathetic. The only reason to do a show at Sirius is to get some kind of exposure.

In the same interview, Rick talked about how he'd like a shot at another show--he had a cancelled one at K-Roc after Marbles left for Sirius.

After taxes and expenses that sounds about right.

Brings to mind how cool it was for Adam Carolla to tell them to go fuck themselves when they wanted him to do a show for nothing, also. The quote is out there somewhere on the net.

According to Howard anyone should be lucky to be working there and should be PAYING to work on his channels.

It's that type of overpaying for Rick that has got Sirius in the mess they're in.

Not sure but if you do a Mark's friggin search, type in Florentine Nick Artie Robin etc. because she was still dating him at the time.

Phil Hendrie said he turned Sirius down because they wanted to stream his show for FREE.
Honestly I'm surprised Sirius/XM is still in business, with everything you can get from the net, who needs it?

Cellular data plans are still pretty costly, and capped. That's pretty much the only reason I can think of.

At one point when Bubba was talking about re-upping he said they offered him a 200,000 operatin budget for the show, including himself. I think he said they got 1 mil on the first deal.

More than likely what happened was they expected that he'd bring in his terrestrial audience, and he clearly didn't, hence the shitty second offer. A 200,000 operating budget would have been relative peanuts, forcing him to go back to some terrestrial markets just to make ends meet.

Sirius still needs the Stern brand; it's too bad the show's been dead for years. He's their franchise player.

Perhaps the reason they only offered $45/show is that they were holding out for Nick DiPaolo, who is far more in-demand.

^^Clearly a recent convert; early callers used to make a game of calling in the show and saying "Love ya, Artie, how you doing Rick" instead of Nick. I guess it has been close to a year since then.

Artie is worth hiring for the eventual payout on the insurance you have to have on him. :D
