Yesterday I wrote about how Sirius XM (SIRI) had the pricing power to dramatically increase their subscription plan prices without having a significant effect on their subscriber numbers. While increasing the price will be great for revenue, it is pointless unless the costs associated with that revenue do not also increase at the same rate. One of the great things about Sirius XM's position within the entertainment industry is that the company has the power both to generate increased revenue from its subscribers, while at the same time lowering its costs related to its content.

Over the next years, as Sirius XM boosts revenue per user, it will also focus on maintaining or even potentially reducing the average cost per user..................

    Contract Negotiation

Many of the initial talent contracts which were signed with stars such as Oprah, Martha Stewart and Howard Stern were overly inflated. As Sirius and XM Radio waged war to attract high profile radio personalities, the two companies drove contract prices into the stratosphere. Now that the companies have merged, Sirius XM is working hard to bring those costs back down to earth. Martha Stewart and Bubba The Love Sponge have recently accepted salary reductions and Howard Stern will likely see his salary reduced substantially when it comes up for renewal in 2015. I honestly believe that there is a good chance Sirius XM might not even renew his contract, and the company would likely benefit financially if that happens. In the best case scenario, I would prefer that Howard Stern continue to be an exclusive part of Sirius XM's radio talent team, but with a salary more in line with industry norms..........................

Really. This writer is an asshole.

    Stern ain't leaving Sirius.
He will continue to downsize his staff.
He needs a radio show to make side marbles, get free shit, and prank his fans into funding the kitten cancer ranch.

What's the industry rate for a washed up sell out that ruined the career he once had, decimated his listener base, works 2-3 days per week, takes 12-14 weeks vacation, puts Zero effort into his product, engages in fraudulent book tours for his dying staffers and cannot get a relevant guest to save his life?

Stern won't leave because then o&a would be able to talk about him.

Once the auto industry goes back to selling as many units as should be the norm (not the inflated numbers of the past couple of years) the SIR business model is doomed

Alienated family? Check. Alienated employers? Check. Alienated fan base? Check. Sycophant circle of "friends?" Check. Horseshit marriage? Check. He ain't leaving, unless it's to spearhead an even more pointless disaster with a one day work week and a "heads I win tails you lose" compensation structure.

According to hosts on the shows I actually LISTEN to, they haven't gotten any raises in YEARS, so if that has any shred of truth to it, I can see why their costs are going down...

His Buckwald contract will state that he'll work any day that doesn't end with a "y".
