I called a few days ago to cancel my subscription. An Indian answered the phone and I couldn't understand him so I hung up. Tonight is the last night to call before SiriusXM auto-renews my subscription and another Indian answered. I still couldn't understand very well but he said there were no Americans available. The Indian confirmed all SiriusXM calls go to India now. No surprise I guess because most American companies do this now. This sucks. Anyway I thought I would be a little sad to no longer have access to the Howard Stern channels. The truth is I have heard every show at least three times and there is no reason to tune in live anymore.

I can't really think of a single company where I can call and get someone who isn't in India at this point. Can you?

In a country of over a billion people 800 million are the poorest people on earth.

Pay a guy 10$ a day or 10$ and hour, Republicans you get what you pay for.

Just to give you some tips on canceling, I recently went through this with the Fillipinos (apparently now it has switched to India)?

    1. Get the name of the rep. It will be a fake English name, but you need it.
    2. Get a cancellation order confirmation number.

    3. Watch your credit card bill closely. They will try to bill you again anyway (at least they did me). What you will need to do is dispute the charge with your card issuer (i.e. your bank or whoever) and provide them with the rep name and confirmation number, while also calling Sirius and making a complaint with said information. If you do all of that, you will get your money back from when they try to keep billing you anyway and claim they have no record of your cancellation.

5-10 years ago India was really cheap so companies all outsourced to there, but since then the costs have increased to about the same as it costs in the US, so the same companies have been moving their operations to Manila and Singapore, thus you often get Filipinos as well as Indians now.

I'm in Toronto so it's Sirius Canada for me, when I called it was actually a Canadian I was speaking to over in Nova Scotia. He sounded kind of redneck but gave me no problems canceling my subscription, he didn't seem to care at all.

I just talked to some Indian chick. I'm either getting a 20 dollar credit or I owe them 40 thousand dollars.

It's interesting when you think about how little contact you ever have with a call center typically. Registration/activation is automated usually, you only really call if there's a problem or you want to cancel. So you've got a couple of minutes of labor time per subscriber on average.

If the US based worker (who can speak and understand clearly) costs $20/hour and the Indian call center worker costs $5/hour, they save $15/hour. But per minute that's 25 cents. So, to handle your call when you cancel or change something they save $.50. Say you're a PITA and take longer, they save $1. Say you call once a year. They save about 1/2 of one percent of what you pay them every year.

Seems to me the PR disaster these call centers are would more than outweigh the cost savings. I know that if I have a choice I deal with people I don't have to struggle to understand.

    Really?

I wouldn't think that would be a very profitable business anymore...

"You are certainly right, Rakesh! That Howard Stern is one ugly son of a bitch!"

(I posted this in an earlier thread, but it fits!)
