Why so they do this? Robin and Bla bla blowhole sound like Barry White!
Maybe after you have heard them all for the tenth time they sound slower
Even Jackie sounds like James Earl Jones
John sounds like he took 25 valium, robin sounds like a man who had a stroke talking from a puddle of molasses.
i think it's because Howard sounded very high-pitched and nasally.
and to kill time, like keith said.
It's Howard's voice. He's said several times that his voice was too high and nasal back then, and he apparently cares about that more than he cares about the quality of the recordings.
Yet for hours, he'd ridicule all the other stations that layered effects over their voices; from the "tunnel" sound to the compression.
I don't remember who said this here, but wasn't one of reasons was because of the aging tapes?
I just can't believe that Howard would approve of that. Sounds pretty bad. If that isn't proof that Howard doesn't give a shit about his own legacy, then nothing will.
Thank god for YouTube.
I'd say that friends-with-Rosie-O'Donnell, pescetarian-trophy-wife, and the whole AGT fiasco are proof enough.
Maybe I am speaking out of my ass, but I believe the old tapes were archived at a higher speed to save space (a store I worked at used to have their shopping music this way, a tape with hours of sped-up music on it played back on a special machine) and man hours, and then they are slowed down during playback, or were slowed down during their transfer to digital. This may explain why it sounds slower than it should, and probably because Scott Salem is incompetent.
I remember them also complaining about how they had to "bake the tapes" or apply some type of heat method to them too.
High-quality recording materials, there.
