I read all the glowing reviews on this movie. Finally saw it. Then watched it again.

I don't understand what all the clamor is about. It didn't seem exceptional to me.

Did you like it? What am I missing

I only saw the trailer and it made me kind of want to watch the movie.
Should I not waste my time?

It's been out for like a year overseas and did gangbuster business in Asia. I believe they edited out something like 40 minutes as part of the agreement to gain US distribution.

I saw it a few weeks ago. Thought it was entertaining but that's about it. Sites like Grantland are losing their shit over it, which I just don't get.

It was an in-flight movie between Atlanta and Seattle. I watched it because I was bored out of my mind.

The plot twists were ridiculous and ending was retarded. Middle was OK.

    Wouldn't watch it again.

I saw it, and liked it. There was definitely 'something missing' and that's not to mention a really poor ending.

I think one reason it's gotten such acclaim is the director has gotten a lot of praise for previous work in foreign movies, this is his english language debut ( so in some ways their giving him a pass for any oversights and looking more at his potential as a director...at least that's what i've read in reviews).

Another reason is it challenges class warfare or the 1% (and global warming), something that resonates with the people and media outlets reviewing the movie giving it glowing praise.

I did like it though, it's got elements of different movies like matrix, clockwork orange, dystopia, very unusual and despite the topics above being woven into the plot it doesn't feel too preachy....

i think it's what you'd call a good popcorn movie, it wont let you down if you don't go into it with expectations.

I just give it an "ok". I wasn't pissed that I wasted my time but I was really happy I spent the time either. :toptip:

I get all that. Just like Transcendence yakking about the dangers of computers. But I'd prefer something a bit more subtle. Snowpiercer hits you over the head with everything. Then again, I just saw "Under The Skin"; a movie so mysterious and nebulous, I'll be years figuring it out. (but seeing a naked, voluptuous Scarlett Johannsen makes it worth the journey.)

Transcendence was downright retarded. Idiotic movie. The Depp character and superintelligence made most sense and those luddites and gov were nutjobs that killed so many people. The whole movie is stupid and the message it sends is dumb.

    Trailer looked awful.

How does the train keep moving? How is there a renewable resource to fuel it?

How do the people eat? Where is the food coming from? Is there a bottomless well of water for the inhabitants?

I would have a hard time suspending disbelief for this dreck.

All I need to know is did the under dogs make it to the front of the train or not?

They never edited out the 40 minutes. The Weinstein brothers wanted to because they thought audiences were too stupid to understand it. The director ended up winning the battle.

I saw it. I thought it was a bit overrated, but I liked it.

I think the 'hitting you over the head' part was because the movie was a satire.

You watched it two times in a row. That says something about the movie in a way, it was worth trying to watch a second time for some of the visuals and try to figure out if there's something you missed first time through....the last half hour is incredibly ponderous, pointless and if i liked the movie more i'd be pissed at how little effort was put into the ending.

Under the Skin was god-awful. That was a TERRIBLE FUCKING MOVIE!!! artsy-fartsy bullshit.

I see it as an OK movie that's fine when you're in the Cineplex.

Beyond that, I'm not prepared to go.

I'll watch it a 3rd time because I tend to do that with movies I can't quite figure out and also you, apparently liked it. Maybe you're right about the satire angle; perhaps that's the reason it hit me in head.

Brer Jimmy posted that they cut 40 minutes. I can't imagine what might be in them.

After Lone Ranger and this year, Transcendence, Depp is making some bad career moves. I thought Transcendence was completely beneath him.

Needs to have a sit-down w his agent.

ya, i liked it, but nothing to write home about....

I think someone in the thread mentions the 40 minutes weren't cut after all....

I'm assuming you saw the movie at home watching it back to back...that in itself is a statement about distribution not having much faith in the movie (near simultaneous release on wide-screen and secondary markets)....
