why aren't workers who treated patients in the US, Spain, Germany or other countries other than those in West Africa also subject to being quarantined as well?

A better question is what lawyer has time to debate the Ebola virus on a message board during weekday work hours? When do you practice law?

A better question is why are the solders who were helping being quarantined, when they had infinitely less contact with the infected patients?

I am sure most (likely all) of the at-risk people are not infected, but the problem is that it only takes one or two infected people to spread it like wildfire. It is much easier to quarantine a few people that we know had direct contact with infected people than to try to put the genie back in the bottle if we hit hundreds or thousands of cases.

You must have missed the part of my question where I asked why health care workers that treated Ebola patients in the US have not been quarantined

Fine, but that means that every person who treated Duncan AND the nurses who treated him and got infected should be quarantined, yet that have not happened. The only people who have been quarantined have been those returning from West Africa or family members of Mr Duncan.

well that could be an argument, had the two nurses who treated Duncan not become infected in a US hospital, so it doesn't fly. Everyone who treated them and Duncan should be in mandatory quarantine, if it's about keeping the public safe

From what I read these nurses did not get as sick as Duncan was, nor as sick as the patients in those God forsaken western African countries. When you are dealing with bloody discharge in vomit, diarrhea and every orifice it's different. Also they did not take the proper precautions to cover themselves completely, I'm sure those that treated the nurses did.

They didn't get as sick as Duncan because they were treated as soon as they got ill, Duncan on the other hand was sent home with a 103 fever, so in fact he got shitty treatment in the US like others in West Africa. So people who treated him in the US should be quarantined, again IF THE GOAL IS PROTECTING THE PUBLIC HEALTH

...and thousands of medical workers who treated patients in West Africa have not contracted Ebola, after treating hundreds of patients, yet two of those who treated one patient in Dallas got ill. it seems the odds are worse for those treating US patients than West African ones

The broad in New Jersey had a fever, didn't she? And didn't the doctor in NYC actually have the disease and go out and about anyway, regardless of his promise to self-quarantine.

The soldiers don't have fevers... so in what context is it reasonable to quarantine them, yet not to quarantine others who have displayed some symptoms of the virus, or (in the case of the doctor) who had a confirmed case of the virus?

There is only a very small chance that these nurses have the disease, but the risk/reward ratio is hugely slanted in favor of the risk side, meaning that even though the chance is miniscule, the potential ramifications are so huge that it's prudent to take extra caution.

It's obvious that the administration is taking an overly lax view of the issue, and a couple of governors are being overly strict. However, in this case... 21 days of quarantine is not exactly a death sentence, and people don't have the right to risk everyone else's safety and livelihood because they personally don't think they are putting anyone at risk.
