I was listening to some random show at 3am in my insomnia filled excellent fucking week and it said that %15 of people could not afford $1000 cash in a bind and %25 could not afford $2500.

    Could you?

Sure, we maintain between 5 and 10 grand as emergency cash, not including the room on the credit cards that are paid off every month. :coffee:

Yes. I would prefer not to though. Still got heavy school bills and an apartment that has way too high rent

I would be shocked if only 15% of people could not come up with $1,000. My guess is some interpreted the question to mean could they get their hands on it by borrowing. I've had customers with homes and luxury cars and dry cleaning delivered to their door and Omaha Steaks delivered sitting on the doorstep who would call and ask me not to cash a $75 check till their next payday.

This is a good point. Yes, wages have been stagnant for years, but everyone has smart phones, cable TV, nails done, restaurant meals etc. Our grandparents made a lot less than us, but they were committed to saving and had a lot fewer opportunities to waste their money.

That's about right. It's all in credit not liquid funds. They did a study in 2010 where less than 64% could afford a $1k hit. That figure is probably only marginally better now fy 2016. But hey, there is a Starbucks on almost every corner!
