    – Amazing Spider-Man producer Matt Tolmach would like to have Venom (or Carnage) as the main antagonist in The Sinister Six, as he doesn’t feel the symbiote can hold his own movie (so bye-bye Venom: Carnage, by the sound of it). And should Venom end up featuring in The Sinister Six, Spider-Man would wear his black suit in the film before tearing it off after being mocked by the Sinister Six over his new look, leading to the birth of the antagonist.

    – Had Sony agreed to allow Spider-Man to feature in Civil War, it would have been as a cameo, with Marvel Studios replacing Andrew Garfield with a new actor. Sony’s Michael De Luca was keen for the deal to happen, hoping it would renew interest in Spider-Man movies and allow Sony to skip The Sinister Six. De Luca also suggested the possibility of rebooting the Spider-Man series once more, albeit skipping over the character’s origin and potentially using Venom, Carnage and Hobgoblin as the villains.

So, at this point, it looks like Sony has absolutely no idea how to proceed with the Spider-Manfranchise, and all of the previously announced plans such as The Sinister Six movie seem to be completely up in the air. Not good news for fans of the wall-crawler, but you have to wonder if there’s ever going to be a better time for Disney and Marvel Studios to make a play for the

So your saying even if the worst episode of Robins diet made a $250 million profit she should just hand it over because the internet comic book nerd demographic says so?

Spiderman is not a Rogue's Gallery superhero. He's a Superhero's Superhero. On the whole, his cast of villains STINK.

The madness is shitting on Venom and Carnage. Venom was hot in the 1990s, Carnage is the darkest villain Spiderman has and Venom is literally the only foe of Spiderman
that could both carry a movie as the sole A-story or carry a movie in a spinoff.

S6 is a BAD idea for Sony and maybe even for Marvel.Too many characters. Will they do origin stories within the movie or just make it as if everyone knows who they are? Spiderman may be a dead franchise, with the exception of appearing in Marvel movies as a cameo(if rights are released). I can't sit through another fucking origin story of Spiderman OR Superman.
Why doesn't Marvel do an animated movie with motion capture/CGI (like Avatar) or even the quality of some of these video games out now? It's gotta be cheaper and I think it would place the viewer into a more "accepting" frame of mind. The Inhumans, for example, is going to be tough to pull off live, I think. Marvel can't always hit home runs.

Carnage and Venom are hot for people under 30. I think they are a bit lame and their era introduced a new generation of lazy writing.

18-34 market, baby. I know plenty of people that age who'd love to see symbiotes done justice.

The thing that kills me is that it is still show BUSINESS. Despite the appearance of Marvel wanting to please fans, it's all about $$$. Sony doesn't even try to pretend. I'm curious as to Marvel's future track record with films. Will they be successful as Pixar?
And I STILL can't believe there's no Namor in Phase 3...:tantrum:

    From CBM:
The "Sony Hack" debacle is the gift which keeps on giving, and the latest chain of emails shed some light on some of the Spider-Man details we've been hearing over the past few days! Based on emails seen by Mashable, Andrew Garfield's comments about studio interference being responsible for the tepid response to The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have upset the wrong people, especially as he failed to appear at a Sony corporate dinner in July which would have seen him meet Sony CEO Kaz Hirai and a number of other executives. However, "His absence (with less than an hour of notice) was seen as an affront and slight by the company's Tokyo bosses," according to the site. As a result, he's been effectively fired as talk of a new Spider-Man began in October.

"I love introducing pp [Peter Parker] in cap but I know it comes with so many things since we won't give them what they want what will we give them? We can say it's a cameo but I'll bet it's more and will involve some of his world and it will be peter and spidey right," Amy Pascal said in an email to producer Matt Tolmach at one point, questioning how Spider-Man might fit into Marvel's longterm plans. Even more interesting though is a memo Pascal wrote to herself with issues they would need to take up with Marvel Studios if Sony were to agree to their rebooting of the character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. "if we have spiderman in cap 3. what is our fee and our back end. need script approval, casting approval of sm and aunt may and consultation of mays house in queens and any other spiderman locations we may need in future movies. also approval of new spiderman costume> how long is he is the movie? how closely does it follow the civil war story line? does the world find out who spiderman is? are there any other characters from the spiderman universe they are using? can we use one of the marvel characters in our future spiderman movies not produced by marvel.can we use cap to set up ss? can drew work with the russos to get this done? are we renting him out?" Some interesting questions!

As you might imagine, this cameo (at this point, it seems as if they were only talking about lending Spider-Man to Marvel Studios for a single appearance) wouldn't have been free, and Pascal discussed both merchandising rights and taking a cut of the box office for the third Captain Americamovie. As for a solo Spider-Man outing following this appearance, Sony wanted to retain creative control over everything from the casting to script and director, something which may have put Marvel off. In fact, they wanted Marvel to consult on marketing materials ("because they are really good") but didn't appear to be willing to offer anything more than Spider-Man existing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The plan would be to shoot this in 2015/16 for a 2017 release.

Even more questions raised by Pascal give us an idea of where this potential crossover could lead:

would we have to dismantle ss?
can drew goddard write the sm original?
who would direct the sm movie?
what do we do with matt tolmach and avi?
they can not put spidey in future spiderman movies or team ups.
we need to keep animation rights for a theatrical relaesse spiderman move to be directed by lord and miller. we need to be able to make spiderman movies after this movie we need to be able to make the girl team up movie
is it possible to put spidey in worlds without other characcters once we is with iron man and cap
can we have him in cap and then 6 months later in ss
we have a right to co finance any movie that spiderman is in and get a production credit
we get to make future movies with our characters and theirs in a collorative way but we dont need their approval. marvel produces a bunch of spiderman movies for sony the way they do for disney....all spiderman dominent movie are financed snd marketed by us event though disney will have the mrech on eerything
we can put the marvel and even disney logo on ours if we can put sony on theirs

As you can see, they seemed to really come around to the idea of Marvel taking over the Spider-Man franchise, but still wanted to push ahead with an animated feature helmed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller and that llive-action female-led spinoff. They were also hoping that Captain America: Civil War could somehow help set up the events of Sinister Six, but do seem open to scrapping that movie if necessary. It even sounds like they want to use some of Marvel's characters in their Spider-Man movies! Ultimately, this shows us that there's a lot to be worked out if such a deal goes ahead, and as talks apparently fell through after the emails you see here, the fate of the Spider-Man franchise is now unclear. Surely Sony can't ignore the overwhelming demand to see Spidey in the MCU since these emails leaked, right? Be sure to share your thoughts on all of this below...
