My Dad was a WW2 veteran.

USAAF...Staff Sargent, flew in a Piper Cub, all over the South Pacific.

He was a Meteorologist and did troop observation, on occasion.

    I miss him.

I was thinking today...as kid there were so many of these guys at family picnics....everywhere....They were a dominant influence in our culture

The entire generation served. A really special breed, not only did they grow up during the depression, but then went off, some of them for 4 or 5 years, fought and won ww2...came home and built this country into a powerhouse

He graduated from HS in 1939, got a job at Kodak and by August of 1940 he was in the Army...after basic, he was sent to be trained as a meteorologist..he hated science :jj: and had never been in an airplane.

He told me very little about his overseas service, but, he told me some stuff about crazy times he had in Florida, North Dakota and San Francisco...

I don't know much, but he really did not want to talk about it.

My dad passed not to long ago...I never said anything, as he had been suffering with Alzheimer's since 2000.

I hope you and your dad have many years of hanging out Dave...sincerely.
