Found and killed one of these, a brown recluse, just outside my house today.

A couple weeks ago I killed 2 of these in my garage. Black widow.

Anyone been bitten by or had an experience with one of these.
They can do some real damage and have killed young kids.

I read a gushy thing about spiders. They said how beneficial they were to mankind for eating bugs etc, etc. When they came to Recluses they said 'kill on site'.....Showed me the danger they represent. Also had a few drop out of my shoe in Texas...... It's hit or miss if you need to get skin grafts to heal a wound.

I bought a '67 Galaxy in SC and had to do some fiddling under the dash to get it running. I got bit by something and my hand swelled up a good bit. I went to one of those generic medical centers and they gave me a shot, cleaned the wound and told me I was probably bit by a brown recluse. I have no idea if that was accurate. I got the car home, bug bombed it and never had another problem.

BTW.......when I was told it was a brown recluse I panicked and the doc said that it was only the young, old or unhealthy that had to be overly concerned. Again, maybe I was bit by a mouse or another bug. I only know what I was told. Maybe I was just real lucky.

Tap the toe of your shoe against something hard and the spider will fall out. Never put your shoes on without doing this. In Texas.

Wouldn't mind if someone put those spiders on Benjy's stomach while he is sleeping.

I have a friend who got bit by a coral snake and the venom ate the top off his pinky finger.

Thankful I have the "Tap The Toe Of An Empty Shoe" habit from the great state of Texas and the ignorance of little else.

So it looks like my spider guy sent me the wrong species. To be fair, when they're tiny babies they're almost impossible to tell apart but a breeder should be more organized. Luckily he sent me a harmless species.

What I thought was a Grammostola pulchra

grew up to be a Brachypelma auratum.
