Has anyone been watching the Star Trek marathon on BBC?

They're running through the first and second season of the original series.

I love this series. Always have. One hitch though, why in the world did they digitally alter all of the scenes in space, (whenever you see the Enterprise, planets, space debris, and so on.....). Now they look much more authentic, with much better definition, effects and colors than the original.

I just don't understand. One of the things that makes the original Star Trek cool is how campy and cheap looking it was. Whether that meant seeing the strings holding the Enterprise up, blinking Christmas lights for controls, aliens made of foam and pipe cleaners, and so on, it all made the original series special.

Why would they fuck with that of all things?

Sorry, I know this thread is going to die a quick death but shit likes this always drives me nuts so I had to vent.

    Enjoy.

You're not in to the original series?

I have to admit, I never got into the newer ST spinoffs. As far as the Next Generation, I swear every time I tuned to watch it they were wasting time in that holodeck deal. It seemed like they were in that thing 24/7 playing pirates or whatever.

    Just not my thing.

Cool that you like it though. Whatever turns your screws.

I'm a big Next Generation and DS9 fan. The original series was good but had a lot of junk episodes in its second and third seasons.

It's just like Lucas messing up the original trilogy ( making Greedo shoot first), or Spielberg changing the guns in ET into radios! Or how about taking the racists words out of Huck Finn? It's a whitewashing of the past in order to appease the crybabies of today's culture.

O.G Star Trek for the win. Enterprise is pretty cool. Deep Space Nine I liked when it first aired. Next Generation was like the Love Boat in space. :puke:  the new Trek series goes back to its roots.

I absolutely agree. I thought about your examples when I first saw the changes they made to it. Especially the changes made to the original Star Wars. I guess it was inevitable.

Yeah, fucking hate how they digitally altered the old episodes. Really hard to find the undoctored originals.

Yup, some of those episodes made Lost in Space look like hard sci-fi by comparison. I still only really like the original series, even the bad, goofy episodes.

Anyone have this stone-age Trek game? Great fun! I can still hear those stupid sounds in my head.

    Yup, I saw this one.

There's no doubt that the effects they added were very cool and pretty much up-to-date. All looking 10,000 times better than the original.

But at the same time, that's my argument.

These are from the same episode WITH the original artwork.....

    I get it.
The original was state of the art for 68 or so.
It never got in the way of the story.
    I like both versions.
BTW, nerd info, that first pic of the Constellation going into the machine was an off the shelf Enterprise model the guys bought at a toy store to save cash.

Why is there a BBC popping up out of the console?
