Howard Stern refused to make a comment supporting ousted SiriusXM Host Anthony Cumia when a caller to The Howard Stern Show attempted to ask him about the controversial firing earlier this week.
When asked by the caller to his show for comment Stern deflected the issue saying that he (the caller) should take it up with the fired host's partner. He then went on to talk about how he has no friends in radio (though he joked about some Facebook relationships with a few).

Stern, in his usual style, then went on to imply that anyone working at SiriusXM should be thankful for being able to bask in his reflected spotlight.

The remarks show Stern's lack of understanding of his own position and a complete unwillingness to acknowledge that anyone else on SiriusXM actually has devoted fans. The firing of Cumia was arbitrary. It happened due to Twitter comments not something that occurred on air. The Twitter remarks were harsh but no harsher than things Stern says and does nearly every day. In not supporting Cumia, Stern turned his back on a less powerful host who was persecuted by a company for no reason other than the potential for backlash (which if it came at all was much less than the backlash caused by Opie and Anthony fans when Cumia was fired).

Stern also ignored the fact that while their audience is not as big as his Cumia and Greg "Opie" Hughes were one of SiriusXM's few drawing cards.

It may not matter to Stern if SiriusXM fires him over similarly silly charges. It's surprising however that the host did not step up in support of free speech which he has always supposedly been a proponent of.

Stern 68's vagina is going to fall off from this. I am pretty sure he uses that site for his 12 million fans argument.

Howard is all-in right now trying to show Sirius what a dedicated company man he is. Once he signs his new contract at the end of 2015, he'll comment.

The 2014 version of Howard doesn't need to worry about being fired for saying outrageous things.

The author of that article is under the impression that Howard is for free speech - Stern was against the FCC when it was interfering with his collection of marbles, but he now voluntarily censors his own satellite program, posted HowardTV videos which always disabled comments and most calls into his show are from shills who just happen to bring up select talking points.

Howard defends Donald Sterling from being forced to sell his team, but doesn't say anything in support of Anthony for getting fired for doing much less.

Howard was so full of shit when he tried to sell around the time of Private Parts the movie that he was a champion of free speech. Not surprising since that is his MO. Claims to be a hero until it is time to step up and then run for the hills when it suits him. He did the same thing with his fight with the FCC. He wanted to push the boundaries and fight them when Infinity was paying the fines. The second that the FCC tried to change the law that they could fine Howard directly, he bolted for Sirius.

They were never his marbles - the station had to pick up those fines.

    Real keep it lets.....

Anthonys love for a certain country and their cool uniforms during a certain war could not have sat well with certain people at Sirius/XM.

Was Cumia imprisoned or executed for what he said? NO. He exercised his freedom of speech and like anyone else has to deal with the reaction of his actions.

If a business owner saw their 9-5 employee on go an anti-Semitic Twitter rant they'd probably decide that they did not wish to employ that kind of person.

The fact that weeks later people still don't grasp this very simple concept shows how collectively dim witted we've become as a society.

Speaking "freely" won't get you locked up or fined but you can absolutely be socially ostracized or denied employment if you're racist views create a hostile or litigious work environment.

What have 0.0 ever done for Stern? They talk s*it about him on their show and show no appreciation for the fact that he allows them to work on SiriusXM when all he has to do is give the word and they would be fired. There would be no satellite radio without Stern, no one even knows this guy is gone.

And the deals to put sat radio in cars. That was bigger than wiggy. Way bigger. And then your hero couldnt help when the stock price wnt to a nickle, and they almost went bankrupt. Where were his super powers then? You should worship the man who realy saved SIRIUS/XM, JOHN MALONE. Without him you would be parked outside wiggy's house listening to him scream out a window.

    I'm a

I'm sick of this stupid and moronic defense of people being ideas for exercising their free speech. Of course the government didn't do anything to Anthony for expressing his free speech so if it's not illegal why should your employer fire you for not breaking the law? You're either for free speech or you're not. SiriusXM is not for free speech.

Lets keep it very real, Sirius was looking for an excuse to fire his worthless dumb racist ass. This idiot has been on the air for what, 20 years ? He has a major scandal that makes national news and JD, a third level stammering idiot from Stern has 40,000 more twitter followers than Ant. They were never getting another contract.
