Howard's appearance on Today didn't seem to help them as they fell even further behind GMA in the morning "news" ratings race.

ABC News’ “Good Morning America” ranked No. 1 among the morning news programs across all key target demos: Total Viewers (5.100 million), Adults 25-54 (1.820 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.334 million)for the week of July 21, 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research. “GMA” outperformed NBC’s “Today” (4.041 million, 1.576 million and 1.252 million, respectively) during the week by 1.059 million Total Viewers, by 244,000 Adults 25-54 and 82,000 Adults 18-49. In fact, “GMA” saw its largest Total Viewer advantage over “Today” in more than 7 months (since w/o 12/30/13) and 2nd largest overall this season. Additionally, GoodMorningAmerica.com on Yahoo! reached over 19 million users last month.

    This is the norm now.

This is WHY David Letterman bumped him. He's a drag on the ratings.

The answer is so obvious, Today is now on Sirius thanks to synergy between them and Howard, there are millions listening on the Sirius today channel.

If that's your obvious answer why isn't GMA crushed in the ratings every day but only when Howard is on?

Exactly. Notice that Howard never mentions the ratings of his talk-show appearances any more? He always crowed about them in the past when he still had enough fans to make a difference.

The dog that didn't bark and all that. It draws attention to the problem. Despite all those elephants walking around the studio and all those people who are "around" he has a sense it isn't always working - he wouldn't have brought in that beard transplant doctor (who schooled Wiggy hahahahah) on the show otherwise. Look! Howard isn't afraid to talk about hair systems!

Robin, NBC is so happy with the ratings they're going to throw Beth a Birthday party.

It's NBC's fault, they keep moving the time the Today show is on, the fans couldn't find it!

Jimmy Fallon has been hosting the Tonight Show now since February....he has had a parade of A-list celebrities, and even had Heidi on the other night. Has Howie made an appearance? Not once...even though the show is in NYC. All theses hosts know that Howie hasn't moved the "ratings needle" in years, and his relevancy has dropped to D-list level....so why bring him in.

The "Stern effect"? That thing is dead.

Mel B was on recently too. The two "bimbos" that Howard jealously snipes at to his 300,000 listeners are far more popular, funny, topical and well liked than Howard has been for years.
