Not sure if this was discussed already, by Howie might be planning to make Florida his permanent residence for tax purposes. He probably sees the writing on the wall a Sirius and plans on having some sort of "TV career" in the aftermath. Limbaugh did the same a while ago.

Taxes are much lower in Florida- we let tourists pay a lot of the taxes- there is no state income tax. There's also no snow, and 600 miles of white sand beaches.
The tax situation in NY state sucks ass and will not get any better.

Was thinking the same thing yesterday.
Howard, I believe, has three homes now; NY, Hamptons, and now FL.
While I'm sure he is able to keep all of them without fretting about money, will he keep all of them?
There's only two adults and a bunch of cats.

    This has been discussed.

He can minimize his tax burden by relocating to FL but it comes with caveats.

    1) Even if Howard were a legal resident of Florida, any work he did, or members of his staff, or his agents, while physically in the State of NY,
The income related to that work is subject to NY tax.

Rush Limbaugh has been audited by the State of NY for both City and State income tax every year since he relocated to FL.
    He speaks about it often.

    2) To have any benefit, he must be a resident of FL for at least 6 months and one day.

The major benefit for Howard moving would be his mansion would be a homestead under FL law and can't be taken
if his fortunes turned and he went bankrupt.

    I suppose it's possible .
I doubt it but you might be on to something.

I see this as Howard positioning for his next business venture and laying out an effective tax minimization strategy.

NY seems to be pretty aggressive in hounding part-time residents for taxes. I wonder if he'll be able to keep NY homes if Palm Beach is his OFFICIAL residence and still avoid NY taxes?

    No he can't.

Taxes on Real Property need to be paid regardless of whether or not you are a resident of that jurisdiction.
If he keeps the property, he pays taxes on it.

I wonder how much he would have to pay in taxes on all three properties? I'm guessing way over one million for all three. But he can't have only one mansion. Beth would want to be as far away from him as possible.

    It's not that bad.

However, the insurance and maintenance are significant.
Waterfront properties in flood and Hurricane prone areas, he's paying through the nose.

Anybody can check the tax record for the FL mansion and see its assessed value and what the current tax is.

I think reno's on the right track. Girl Town just got a little bit further from Boy Town.

Howard more or less blows Andrew Cuomo on air, supports all of his policies, and has made it a point of announcing the past few elections that he votes down the line for democrats. Therefore he's at least in good standing with the gov.

Then again, maybe Andrew has a memory about how the mid 90's ball-busting libertarian Howard used to talk about his father.

    Oops. Missed this one....

Hardcore New Yorker Howard Stern is shopping for a South Florida home this weekend.

The satellite radio shock jock, and America's Got Talent judge, and wife Beth Ostrosky were seen visiting $20 million-mansions in the Jupiter/Palm Beach Gardens area.

And the King of All Media was overheard telling lunch companions he wants a change because he is tired of paying New York taxes, which are among the highest in the nation

Yep, sure doesn't seem like Howard is hurting all that much after losing his case against Sirius.

Didn't he deny all of this a few weeks back?
