"Robin, the Neilsen meters would have broken if I had been on"

From 11:30PM-1AM, the final broadcast of LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN (Adj Avg. 9.3/24) delivered its highest rating since Dec.1, 2005 (10.1/24) with guests Oprah Winfrey and Bonnie Raitt. Last night’s LATE SHOW outrated every primetime broadcast.

What's amazing is how many people gave a shit in 2005 to watch Oprah on Dave. Dave feuding with Oprah. Why did viewers even care. Howard feuding with everyone back then and supposedly had 20 million listeners. No one gave a crap about his assorted feuds.

My DVR cut off after an hour but, I understand it went about 20 minutes longer?

Anyway, unless something earth-shattering happened in that 20 minutes, I'm going to have to rate this finale as so-so.

The only thing I actually chuckled at was the top 10.

ETA: The best thing about the top 10 was that Howard wasn't a part of it.

For a finale, the show was ok as my expectations are low anyway.

Plus in the scheme of things, the late night shows are on every night and most are nothing to jump up and down about.

Next time Dave Grohl is on with Wigmaster-

"Dave, in a sense, didn't it bother you that you were asked to play on Letterman's last show, and then they just showed clips of Dave over top of you guys?? That Dave made it all about himself?? Be honest...."

Hes so bitter at this point was saying on Wednesday show he had big plans but the told him no. He then said hes a big a star as Bill Murray and the other guys pulling the schtick. Its sad at this point I think they booked him that Monday as a mercy booking at this point.

Really appreciated how they had all the posthumous appearances in the montage...Pretty well-planned and thought out...

    Howard's career maps his marriage:

He wanted so bad to have the trophy wife, he dumped the one decent woman he had in his life. In return, he thought he had it all sewed up with the white, blond, socialite former "model", but ended up with a pig-in-the-poke: A total embarrassment: a dumb, heavy drinking money-hungry attention whore who is rapidly going Maria Shriver on us, with the facial angles, wrinkles and crows' feet etc.

So, his personal life is a 2.

On the career, he wanted so desperately to be "A List" that he decided to go for broke and segway over to SIRIUS, where he could also broker his TV ambitions. What he ended up getting was a lot of money for a never ending series of lawsuits, contractual and production adjustments and tepid ratings. More important, the whole "HSS, Great Producer" thing didn't pan out AT ALL. The only gig that would have him was AGT--a high school talent show for mainstream fly over country. In the meantime, back at the SIRIUS ranch, his claim to fame--uproarious, unpredictable radio--was watered down to the point where it became unrecognizable and utterly unremarkable. No one cares what he is doing on SIRIUS, not even his "fans." And he will never be the Dick Cavett or Bob Hope that he wanted to be: the former "funny men" who became show biz moguls.

So, his professional life is a 0.0.

But: He has shit loads of dough, now that he is married and old and unfunny. So, I guess that means we will continue to have fun here, as he goes and buys more "rad" Varvatos gear and plays up the "Howard Stern-Eternal Teenager" bit. :horns2:

Robin, his ratings were so high because we have been talking about his shows so much lately. THE STERN EFFECT.

In all fairness, you probably shouldn't be looking to a finale of anything for prime laughs. It's a finale. It's going to be more fanfare and spectacle than humor.

full disclosure: i've tried watching his show a bunch of times - always found it terrible. i was just using the finale thread as an excuse to complain about letterman
