He had the ultimate opportunity to revive manufacturing in America by assembling Apple products here...he had enough power with the government to negotiate a non union deal where people made livable wages without unions...

On a side note, I am also an asshole b/c I bought his shit, I love my iphone, iPad, and Mac..

    Motehrf*ck Seve Jobs.

He was a CEO whose job was to maximize profits and he was good at it. So?

If this is the criteria for hero worship, we should be kissing all of Wall Street's asses too.

Don't blame Jobs entirely, blame the unions. That's the main reason things are not manufactured in this country anymore. Unions make things so cost prohibitive that companies ship it out to china.

    Give me a fucking break.

The issue is just like Howard. No amount of money is enough. Corporations are sociopaths. They are there to maximize profits and no jobs in the USA can compete with the slave wages and work conditions in China. Manufacturing costs are small part of the equation, and with Apple being the most profitable company on the planet with an insane valuation they could clearly do things differently if they wanted to. The bottom line is, they simply do not want to. They have openly admitted they like being able to make a phone call and hundreds of workers are waken up in their barracks to go to work.

You can argue union reform is necessary, and at some point unions are just another sociopathic business (a ticket booth collector should not be making 100k). However, to blame unions for us not being able to compete with slave labor is insane.

Some measure of protection is needed for the American worker. You will not hear either party talk about it though. The lobbyists will grease the gears, and the standard of living will continue to decline unless some basic changes are made.

Yeah, those American made products are so good that Chrysler is owned by an Italian company and makes cars made in Canada and Mexico.

Not true. When a Chinee person works for 18 cents an hour no non union job can compete with that. Illegals won't even do it.

It has much less to do with workers wages and everything to do with environmental, industrial, and work regulations.

I despise everything Apple (fuck them, fuck them, fuck them in the ass), but what you're suggesting simply isn't possible.

Americans don't want to work Chinese hours and don't want to make Chinese wages. They did some research last year about how much the iPad would cost if it were manufactured in America. If that was the case, each iPad would cost over 5000 bucks. The same would obviously also count for any computer product, really.

...yeah i think workers would be abused without unions and our environment was on the brink of having to chew the air up before you could breath it in the 60s. there are solutions to all our problems we just have to work together. nothing wrong with high tech efficient machinery in the industrial setting i dont see how thats unreasonable. :dontknow:

...why not? whats wrong with the parameters of worker employee expectations being negotiated and spelled out?

...when you say 'you' do you mean you?
