    Chester Bennington of Linkin Park

Stone Temple Pilots made a surprise appearance Saturday night at KROQ's 21st Annual Weenie Roast at Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, taking the stage between sets by Vampire Weekend and Thirty Seconds To Mars. Making the appearance even more shocking was the fact that the singer may have looked a bit like now-former STP frontman Scott Weiland, but it was actually the band's new singer, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park.
Neither the band, nor Bennington, was introduced. Instead, they tore into "Vasoline" to begin an eight-song set that also included "Big Bang Baby," "Sex Type Thing," and "Interstate Love Song."
Mid-set, STP debuted "Out of Time," their first single with Bennington on vocals. They have posted a video teaser of the song, along with a link to download the full track, on their Facebook page and official website.

In the announcement noting Bennington's arrival, STP guitarist Dean DeLeo said: "Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we've admired for a long time. We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we're all really happy with the result."
Bennington added, "I've loved STP since I was 13 years old and they've had a huge influence on me. When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I've continued to work on new music with LP."
The news, of course, will likely come as a shocker to Weiland, who was "terminated" by his band mates in February. Weiland claimed that STP couldn't carry on without him, and then launched his own Purple to the Core tour with his side-project Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts, performing tracks from STP's first two albums. Questions to Weiland, through his publicist, weren't immediately returned, and he has yet to address the situation on social media.
We can't help that note that with this latest move STP has gone full-on Van Halen. After all, they're a group featuring two brothers, one being a guitar hero (although Dean is no Eddie), with an unpredictable lead singer they've fired, rehired, and fired again. Guess that makes Chester Bennington the new Sammy Hagar?

He sounds good when imitating the high pitched raspy vocals, but lacks the soul of Weiland when he tries the deep voice. :coffee:

They should have renamed themselves like blairg said, tho. They possibly might make good album together, but they'll be a different entity.

I think they can pull it off. As long as they don't go the van halen route and act like Chester has been there the whole time.

Yeah, I hear he's a pain in the ass beyond belief.

Huge gamble...I hope it's worth it for them.

He's actually exhibiting the epitome of what I always thought of the band Linkin Park...technically, he's very close to being there...overall decent, but lacks the soul and flair and has a few missteps. :coffee:

Funny how a dude in America named Chester Bennington sounds like a cool shy dude that would be easy enough to get along with, a wimp though...go to Great Britain and Chester Bennington is the posh fellow who beat you up in school and went on to be the type of guy who would be at a Baccarat table with James Bond. :D
