Florida officials are asking residents to stop spray painting birds Photo via MyFWC/Facebook Birds don't need your help to look fabulous. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is asking the public to stop painting birds, specifically the white ibis. The bird is protected in the state of Florida and painting them is not only illegal, it's cruel and can cause serious damage. Last July, the FWC had to remind Florida residents to also stop painting tortoises and turtles. The white/orange ibis pictured above was taken to Busch Wildlife Sanctuary and is expected to recover. If you come across a painted bird, the FWC asks that you call their Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-3922.
