There's a store in Australia that really hates it when its customers walk around the store without buying anything.
Redditor BarrettFox posted a pic of a signinforming shoppers of a new fee at a specialty food store in Brisbane.
    It's $5 for "just looking."
The fee exists to stop people from "showrooming" — which occurs when a customer looks at items in a physical store, then makes the purchase online.
The sign assures that you'll have the five dollars deducted from the final purchase price, so you'll get your money back if you buy something.

That should go over real well, what about if you go to the store expecting to find a certain item that they don't have or that they usually stock but are sold out of.

I can't say that I blame them....and in a free market they're entitled to run their business as they choose. People will comparison shop and end up buying on amazon even when the prices are the same.
Of course, now that our shithead representatives have voted to attach taxes to online purchases, we're screwed.

If it was tried here, I bet it would cause an immediate outcry and some sort of legal action, maybe discrimination of the illiterate or those that consider reading to be their kryptonite.

We need to send over one of our Harlem flash mobs on principle. I mean, the place was founded as a penal colony anyway.

And how great would it be to watch an inner-city illiterate try to figure out a kangaroo? "DAYMN, DAT'S ONE SKINNY BEAR!"

I constantly used Best Buy for "showrooming"... no way in hell I'm buying electronics without trying them first... but now, Best Buy has a new policy price-matching a bunch of on-line sites, so I might end up actually purchasing from them instead of ordering on-line...

All the electronic stores in the US try to stop you from "showrooming" or at least try to discourage you from doing it. HH Gregg, Fry's, Best Buy hate when people walk around with their cell phones writing down model numbers to buy the product online. I guess Best Buy is willing to match online prices. The biggest scams are mattresses. You will never find the same model in bedding or department stores. Each mattress is slightly altered and given a different model name. It prevents you from finding the actual price and prevents shopping the stores against each other. Tempur-Pedic offer the same models in every store but they don't discount. If you can get a discount it is slight.

The reason is this......Internet Shopping. For many years Australians have been ripped off by Price gouging,And Still are (eg.Software,Hardware charged more in Australia than US, resulting in current Senate inquiry.)

Now with the Australian Dollar doing so well compared to the 'greenback',Paybacks a bitch.People are shopping on the net,and especially from US sites.Stores are pissed........

The reviews available online from hundreds of users and professional reviewers are better than any "showrooming" hands-on inspection I could give any electronics. Besides, you can just return it. Except for groceries and home improvement stuff I rarely go in stores. I could easily avoid the $5 fee by just not going in.
