My friend recently got charged with assault on a minor because he spanked (not beat) his out of control 10 year old. If I so much as sneezed at the wrong time I'd be cutting the switch I wanted to get my ass whipped with.

He shouldn't have made you do that. It's not your fault.

I don't think Watership Down would be out of the question. It is violent and touches on religion, but it is a powerful story.

The problem at this point is all of the vapid young adult stuff - Harry Potter, Hunger Games, Twilight, etc. Zero content, all surface entertainment. I am glad that kids are, hopefully, reading more these days, but I would hope they season those books with more substance. I was reading King when I was a kid, but I also had the collected works of Shakespeare, the unabridged and full Gulliver's Travels, the full version of Les Miserables, Faust, and Camus in my collection.

I feel I have a great appreciation for bubble gum lit, but the good stuff has endured for a reason.

I played with toy guns. And shot real ones with my uncles and grandfather - all military vets. All very strict about muzzle discipline and respecting the weapon.

I wish everybody had that kind of teaching early on.

My junior high (grades 6-8) was a junior sex maniac's delight . . .groping girls with big tits and nice asses, snapping bra straps, whipping down their shorts and panties in gym class. We would have arrested, expelled, and sent to juvie today.
