A Denver startup called Boom Technology plans to bring supersonic passenger travel back, and to bring it to the masses … ish. While the finished product is years away, on March 23, Boom will unveil its design for a 40-seat plane that can fly 1,451 mph (Mach 2.2). At that speed, a New York-to-London flight would take about 3 hours and 24 minutes. Blake Scholl, Boom’s founder and chief executive officer, says round-trip tickets will cost $5,000. “The idea is for a plane that goes faster than any other passenger plane built before, but for the same price as business class,” he says.

It was a bucket list item of mine to fly in the Concorde. I saw the thing take off once and it was insanely loud for a commercial plane.

This is the second article I've seen about this in recent months. Another article mentioned that a group of private investors are planning to bring back the original Concorde by 2019 or 2020.

Unfortunately, 3 and half hour flight means nothing when you have to wait in security for 2 hours.

This Company is a joke. The cost of building a prototype plane like this that is FAA approved is at least $1 billion.

If the reporter had done any background research on this industry the article would have never been published.

Let me know when Boeing, Airbus or Lockheed make a similar announcement.

Lived in the landing path of Kennedy Airport when I was young. I saw the Concorde almost everyday on it's regular flight from Paris to NY. It was a truly beautiful plane but very loud. You could always tell the difference between a regular jet and those big rumbling engines of the Concorde. It would literally rattle every window in the house. But it was nice to see.

7 hour flight one way. Normal RT cost @ $1,000-$1,500 give or take, right? So, round trip, you save about 7 hours of flight time by paying an additional $3,500 to $4,000. I consider my time valuable, but not that valuable.

They flew in here a few times. Although we aren't a huge city, I didn't live anywhere close to the airport, so I didn't hear the landing and taking off noises of normal commercial airlines...but that Concorde would rattle the windows in the house when it took off. I got out to the airport the last time one flew into town and got some photos of it taking off. Very cool.
