BERNE — Switzerland will hold a vote on whether to introduce a basic income for all adults, in a further sign of growing public activism over pay inequality since the financial crisis.
A grassroots committee is calling for all adults in Switzerland to receive an unconditional income of 2,500 Swiss francs — about $2,800 — per month from the state, with the aim of providing a financial safety net for the population.

A separate proposal to limit monthly executive pay to no more than what the company's lowest-paid staff earn in a year, the so-called 1:12 initiative, faces a popular vote on Nov. 24.
The initiative's organizing committee said the basic income could partly be financed through money from social insurance systems in Switzerland.

Hence it is, that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; and have, in general, been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths. :derp:

America lets Walmart and the other big corporations rape it by offering minimum wage part time jobs and not even hiring enough workers to keep the place stocked or provide help to customers. In the early 80s minimum wage was $3.35 and no one worked for less than $6 an hour. Now over 30 years later you can't find an $8 an hour job which is around minimum wage.

a certain part of the population here insists on voting for assholes. sometimes we get assholes who are criminally pro big business and then we get an asshole who gives billions to big banks with no earmarks or restrictions and requirements on its use, and is then amazed when instead of pumping that money back into the economy they invest it in fixed income instruments like long term bonds further taking the money out of the market and out of people's pockets.

as much as i hate to suggest it, the one kind of leader who has consistently improved his constituents standard of living every year he was in office could never be elected to the top office.
