[h=1]Taco Bell introducing more upscale menu items[/h]

Taco Bell, often a late-night indulgence with its inexpensive fare, is going more upscale.
The chain said Wednesday it plans an early July rollout of a menu addition created by celebrity chef Lorena Garcia for its nearly 5,600 U.S. restaurants. New items feature such ingredients as black beans, cilantro rice, citrus- and herb-marinated chicken and cilantro dressing.
The introduction of items that Taco Bell executive Brian Niccol described as "gourmet Mexican," is a venture onto the turf of casual-dining chains such as Chipotle Mexican Grill and Qdoba Mexican Grill known for higher-quality ingredients.
It's a departure from such standards as tacos, burritos and chalupas that Taco Bell's core young-adult customers crave and that will remain mainstays on menu boards.
Introduction of the Cantina Burrito Bowl and Cantina Burrito is part of the Irvine, Calif.-based chain's transformation as its customers increasingly look for more than a quick bite on the go, said Niccol, Taco Bell's chief marketing and innovation officer.

I'd rather have Chipotle, but since the nearest one is like 50 miles away, I hope TB doesn't fuck this up...

I'll wait for Chriza's review...but yeah we have so many burrito type places around Taco Bell should just stick to what it does. We have a California Tortilla, Qdoba's, 3 Chipotles, Moe's Southwest Grill, Baja Fresh, Cafe Rio...all within a 10 mile radius.

    Chriza in 3....2....1....

Seriously, that sounds kind of good and since we don't have a Chipotle around here, I'd be willing to try it.

I'm stuck in BFE, and we have a couple of over-priced Tex-Mex places, a ton of authentic taquerias (lots of Messicans here), and Taco Bell. I love authentic food, and Tex-Mex, but they're really different animals....The only thing I can stand at Taco Bell is crunchy tacos, everything else they have seems the same to me: crunchy corn tortilla with glop, or soft flour tortilla with glop....

Try the steak quesadilla! But yeah they find lots of ways to repackage the same ingredients and call it something else.

I've been grossly disappointed in anything called "steak" at TB....a few tiny shards of some meat-ish substance...I can make a few decent things myself, but I've gotten lazy. Although now I'm thinking it might be about time to do some fajitas :yay:

My first job at 16 was at this place:

There were no Chipotles or Qdobas back then. Our food was a step above Taco Bell. The meat we used was ground round. Our refried beans were made from scratch. We had to put hard beans in a pressure cooker and once they were done we had to mash them. Things like cheese and lettuce were shredded by us daily and not prepackaged. We even had to fry our own taco shells. Our Taco Bravo predated the double decker taco by at least a decade. Prices were a little north of Taco Bell, but not by much. I haven't had Taco John's since I moved away from Colorado in '89. I don't have any idea what the quality is like these days.

I like the Fire sauce, but it leaves a lot to be desired....much like in this pic; not so much fire as a spark....
