In cabo San Lucas wife and kids. Daughter gets sick has a seizure, rushed to hospital and they keep her over night. She is 14 months, she ends up being OK which of course is #1. Then the bill comes...... Lmfao $5k for the night. They ran tests etc to rule out pneumonia. So I layed down the credit card nothing I could do, they said insurance would cover some. So I came back to the hotel and after stewing over what took place went back to argue. Figured it was worth an shot since estimates were lower than the amount i was charged and that was forup to a 2 day stay. So in the end that little thought to go back they saw my point and knocked the bill down to $3.5 k and so I paid for it and I will have to handle it with my insurance Aetna when I get back. In figure I will get, and was told reimbursed for much of that. I'm saying maybe I am out $1500. Anyone gone through insurance for out of country stuff? Salvaging 4 days left of vaca, shit happens but I feel better about $3500 vs $5k. Here some other stories in the few hours there. Kid drunk, ambulance brings him in. With his friends in cabi, no parents they just landed hours before. The adults not his parents pay $1800 cash.... They were sick to their stomach. Kid was out in 2 hours. Lady has passport withheld, daughter had life saving surgery bill is $37k. She needs to pay before passport is released, she tells me insurance will pay when she gets home. Many more stories from talking with front desk worker... Crazy. And then insurance only covers reasonable and customary charges...any balance over that patient pays which is what sparked me to go back and talk the bill down.
