2 years for killing a woman while drinking and driving!?? http://www.citytv.com/toronto/cityn...-2-years-for-crash-that-killed-brampton-woman A teen who killed a 41-year-old Brampton woman while driving drunk last December has been sentenced to two years less a day to be served in an addiction treatment centre. Judge Elliott Allen also banned Brian Turner, 19, from driving for 10 years. “(Turner) started his life as an adult by taking the life of an innocent woman delivering newspapers,†Judge Allen said in court on Wednesday. “No law could have prevented this tragedy.†Early on Dec. 22, 2010, Turner, then 18, was driving with his girlfriend after an evening of drinking when he ran a red light and slammed into another couple's car, a Honda Civic. Sivanermaikkarasi Parameswaran, a mother of two, was thrown from the back seat of the Civic and died at the scene. She had been delivering newspapers with her 45-year-old husband Vijayaratnam, who was airlifted to Sunnybrook hospital with serious injuries. He is now crippled and can no longer work. Turner’s girlfriend, 18, was also taken to hospital. In June, Turner pleaded guilty to impaired driving causing death, impaired driving causing bodily harm, and taking a vehicle without permission. He said he was “sorry and ashamed†of his actions. His parents told the court their son had stolen their car before and they had tried to stop him from driving drunk by hiding the keys and their liquor and by removing him from their insurance. The Crown had asked for a three-year sentence and a 10-year driving ban. Turner got credit for his guilty plea and for his six months in pretrial custody.
