Get a pair of 50 mm binoculars w/ a built in digital camera and a tripod. Good way to decide if you want to continue "stargazing" before you get into spending real money.

Or you could wait a few years until the hottest girl turns into a methhead, then you can get that ass for pennies on the dollar.

    Meade makes some good ones.

A spotting scope like the Leupold ventana and a tripod.

    Binoculars 10x50

Find a local astronomy club. You might even meet a real life girl. :)

One of the other Cub Scout dads had a telescope w a motor in his backyard. You need to be able to follow an object you're interested in as it moves (or appears to move) across the sky, as you photograph it. No recommendations, but as usual nothing good comes cheap. It's amazing what's out there. Definitely mind-blowing.

A good pair of wide field binoculars is way better than a telescope, and I learned this the hard way.
But dont get one with more tha 10 power becuz you cant hold it steady unless of course you get a tripod for it.
