What have you guys done on your own networks?

I have wired my whole house. Using 8 port HP GB switches in various locations. I have two network drives but will be upgrading to a 12 Terabyte cloud soon.

I have an Asus router that provides wireless very nicely. I also, have media players from WD on all my TV's so i can browse my drives and play music, movies, etc...

    What is your network like?

Netgear 24 port giga layer 3 switch. Asus router running shibbys tomato. WAN side VPN using DDNS. HTPC serving tons of devices all over the house. NAS, obi VoIP ata, xboxs, I can't even think of it all. Most subnetted but thinking of switching to vlans.

Yes, I've done it a couple of times for friends. I have no need for one myself, since I don't own any wifi-enabled devices. I like being able to "disconnect" easily.

I got into Surveillance now. I setup a camera system for some friends that own a restaurant. First time i did it and it turned out to be easy. If you already understand how networks work the rest is easy.

It's so easy now bro. They make Cameras wireless, you can power them with POE, they all have phone apps. Just do port forwarding and viola.

When it stops working, I unplug the router for 30 seconds, then it works again.

    That's my whole point :jj:

I've been reading a lot about how poor the security and code on these embedded devices are. People who just throw all their home shit into the same subnet are getting hacked because some smarttv is "phoning home". These embedded things gotta be isolated at a minimum.

I always put something over the camera on my mother's laptop every time I go to her house to debug something, which is every time I go to her house. "Why is my home page changed to nigerianprinceshoppingmall.net?"
