Heard a clip on H101 yesterday where Howard was interviewing a woman who runs a chicken sanctuary. She sounded a little over-the-top but was far more mature, intelligent, and rational than Beth is when she discusses kittens. Howard and Robin kept making fun of her for caring more about animals than humans (even though she also mentioned doing things for people) and Howard said there must be something mentally wrong with her because she sounded like a little girl who was projecting human emotions and feelings onto animals and Barbie dolls. Howard and Robin both ridiculed the idea of a vegetarian diet and disputed the nutritional benefits, Robin even brought up the fact that Linda McCartney was a vegetarian and still got cancer. Completely the opposite of what they both say now. Here's the rundown: Karen Davis Want To Save The Chickens. 4/10/02. 7:30am Howard mentioned this woman Karen Davis a couple of months ago because she compared the killing of chickens to the September 11th attacks. He didn't have her on the show but gave her web site a plug. She thought that Howard didn't want to debate her so she had her people send e-mails to the show. Howard read about this in a news article so he decided to have her on. She called in and explained to Howard that she runs a chicken sanctuary down in Virginia. She explained how she rescues chickens from places. She told Howard about this one place that went bankrupt and killed off hundreds of thousands of chickens... and she saved 70 of them. She says that there is a holocaust of chicken killings every day in this country and it has to stop. Howard said that he thinks she needs mental therapy because she seems to love chickens more than people. She defended herself and said that she has helped people in her life also. She was a teacher, a corrections officer and she ran an apartment building for elderly people. She was offended that Howard would say that she doesn't love people. Gary told Howard that she loves chickens so much that she missed her father's funeral to save some chickens. Howard said there's something really wrong with people who love animals more than human beings. Howard and Karen argued over the value of a chicken's life for some time. Howard told Karen that he had chicken this morning for breakfast and it's a good source of protein. Karen says we don't need to eat animals though. She said she has lots of recipes for vegetable meals on her web site.
