Trying to think of a decent metaphor to explain the demise of that other place...

    Can only think of one:

A person that worked their way into the in crowd, became popular and eventually became the person who hosted all the parties. Soon, they started limiting the types of people that they let into the parties. Just as they were about to open a members only night club, someone (prolly Jeton) dropped a molotov aids cocktail and the business emptied out faster than Mexicans at an ins convention.

Someone rehabs a public bathroom that was a convenient place to take a shit (toilet paper cost extra) then locked it up for a month because someone wrote some graffiti in one of the stalls. Owner laughed at people who had to shit real bad. One month later bathroom opened back up with a bouncer at the door who would decide whether you could enter. People found another place to take their daily dump
