    I would have guessed Paranormal Activity as #1.

    It was pretty much one setting for the entire movie and two unknown actors one of whom doubled as the cameraman. I'd be shocked if it cost $1M to make.

    It ended up being a big hit reaching to audiences beyond the horror genre. It had that Blair Witch Project feel to its success.

    As an aside, I'm shocked they never made a true sequal/prequel to The Blair Witch Project. That movie was ripe for more examination. They only came up with some loosely related Part 2

    The first Paranormal Activity is not included on the list because it is more than five years old. its budget was $15,000 and it grossed over 193 million dollars. a big studio bought it and spent millions on advertising but it is still much more profitable than any on the list above.
