they were a different class of comedians, that just don't exist anymore. i dont think anyone alive today has the timing to do things that require them to be funny rather than to say funny things, and to do it while working clean. Robin Williams could do it; Eddie Murphy could do it once.

They should have put Abbott and Costello in a movie with the Three Stooges!

Well, this is classic so I might as well cite it, but I also liked "The Time of Their Lives" when they were two ghosts who were mistakenly branded as traitors during the Revolutionary War return to 20th century New England to retieve a letter from George Washington which would prove their innocence.

I listen to Radio Classics on sirius, and the Abbot and Costello shows are pretty lame, almost unlistenable. Most of the comedy shows really don't hold up.

They were good, but "the best"?

    False.

    These two were far superior.

I still think Stan Laurel is one of the greatest comedic actors ever. Glad my dad introduced me to Chaplin, Keaton and Laurel & Hardy when I was a kid.

In NY, Channel 11 used to air an Abbott & Costello movie at 11:00 am every Sunday that I watched faithfully.

These were good bc of the violence they got away with. Babbitt beat the hell out of Catstello.

Bonus points if you remember this one. Early Tweety prototype :grad:

I love Abbott & Costello. Like @Rocinante I watched them faithfully every Sunday on WPIX. My favorite is 'Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein'. I know stupid trivia about it too, like how Glenn Strange broke his ankle during filming so there is a brief scene where Lon Chaney Jr. is in the Frankenstein makeup filling in for him (it's the scene where the monster tosses Dr. Mornay out the window).
