    :echick:

I went to a theatre to see the original - when I went home I had to put on every light in the apartment, AND the radio, AND the tv.

Blair witch {the original} is one of the few modern supernatural movies that actually was scary. Unfortunately the modern tendency in supernatural movies is to make it all about the person or peoples mind creating the supernatural forces. It's like they don't want to suggest it is an evil other worldly force. That in my view ruins the movies and takes the point completely out of them. A good example is the film 'descent', about a group getting lost in a cave. The first film suggested it was something paranormal, the sequel however speculated it might be in the female surviors mind ,ruining it at least for me.

"The New Trend in Film Trailers: Creepy Cover Songs
    [IMG] By Katy French
    August 26, 2015

The movie trailer has gone through many evolutions over time. From indie romantic comedies to blow-em-up action flicks, trailers are now as exciting as the films themselves. And, like any artform, they fall victim to clichés. In the ’90s, it was the “in a world…” voiceover of Don LaFontaine. Today, there’s a new trend in trailer world: The slowed-down cover song used for dramatic effect.

You see it in horror, drama, psychological thrillers—just about anything that needs an extra dose of creep factor. Slow the song down, switch the vocalist, and you have the perfect soundtrack for your dramatic trailer. You probably remember this technique from a particularly popular trailer a few years back:

    The Social Network (2009)

    Song: “Creep” (Radiohead)

But it’s continued to be employed, as you can see in a more recent example:

    Suicide Squad (2015)

Song: “I Started a Joke” (The Bee Gees)

So, why does this technique work so well?
“What the cover song does is it gives the audience something to grab onto within the first 10 seconds of hearing it, it gives them something to recognize … So they’d be like, Oh, I know this song,” Marcy Bulkeley, the music director for a movie-trailer production house, told Slate. “These eerily remixed songs have more of an impact on the audience. An audience hears something that they usually equate to feeling happy or upbeat, and hav[ing] it flipped upside-down makes them pause for a moment. While it’s a familiar song, the remix gives them an entirely different feeling.”

Indeed, the juxtoposition is often the key, as evidenced in Oliver Stone’s latest project:

    Snowden (2015)

Song: “This Little Light of Mine”

This cover song in trailer certainly isn’t a passing fad. Turns out there’s quite a business around it, including production houses with in-house artists assigned to the task. (Check out the Slate article for more detail on that.) Despite protests from the production world that this is an over-used technique, it isn’t going anywhere. In fact, you’ll only start noticing it more.

Check out a few more examples, and let us know if we missed any major ones.

    Maleficent (2014)

    Song: “Once Upon a Dream”

    The Gallows (2015)

Song: “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Nirvana)

    San Andreas (2015)

Song: “California Dreamin'” (The Mamas & The Papas)"
