I've never called in so I'm wondering how the process works. How many people do you have to talk to before getting to Howard and what questions do they ask? Also, what happens after Howard dumps a call? Do people hear a pre-recorded message thanking them for the call, or do they hear a dial tone?...

Some radio stations do provide those messages. It's a legit question...

I got through once when Jim Creamer from CNBC was on and Will answered the phone and asked real snotty like "what do you want to talk to Howard about?"

When I told him I wanted to ask Jim Creamer if he ever banged Erin Burnett (as was the rumor) his whole attitude changed and he just said "OK hold on" and I could hear the show while I was on hold

All of a sudden with no warning Wigward picked up and said "Bob, you're on the air". I got my question out and all hell broke loose in the Studio because Howard and Artie started riffing on it. Then all of a sudden I was cut off before I could say anything else and he went to another call.

    End of story

Sounds like a billable option. They'll pass.

The Wig once read an email I sent, this was when the show was good, it was about Robin I forgot the details but I was shocked and stoked to hear it.

I called once when they were discussing how bad Tim was at spelling. I got through on the first try and spoke to Will (who was very nice) and told him about an email exchange I had with Tim where he misspelled several words, including satellite. He told me to hold and Howard would pick up but cell service is terrible in my area and I got cut off. Called back (got right through again) and spoke to Will but the cell service dropped again. Didn't bother trying again but I got the impression they don't get many calls since I was able to get through so easily. In the old days you always got the "all circuits are busy" recording.

I called and got on 12-15 times while i was in high school/college 10-15 years ago. early on it was always busy but then i got the vip number from boots and i would get through first shot every time. it was usually @stuttering john melendez that would answer, gary once or twice, sometimes a random intern i guess. it was always "what do you want to talk to howard about". one time john gave me some snide remark and hung up. sometimes i would be on hold for over an hour but i was young and it was fun.

one time i was on the air and howard asked how old i was. i told him 16. he responded with "you must have a huge set of balls like grape fruits because you sound a lot older"

atleast one time i failed to stump the jokeman with a racist joke.

i got on with some prank calls a few times too.

Its been "What do you want to talk to Howard about" forever. Only time I ever called in was in the 90s. Had a Manqueer story. John answered, said "yeah we heard that one before." Click.
